Born Shirley Ann Parker on April 17, 1937, in Shelby County, Texas, Shirley was raised with the strong values of family, faith, and hard work that would shape her life. In 1956, she moved to Houston, where she began her career with Southwestern Bell as a telephone operator. She later found her calling as a purchasing agent, eventually retiring from Lubrizol Chemical. A long-time resident of LaPorte, Texas, she was known professionally as a tough, sharp-minded businesswoman who earned the respect of her colleagues in a field that wasn’t always easy for women at the time.
Shirley was fiercely independent, unafraid to speak her mind, but beneath that grit was a deeply loyal and loving woman who protected and supported those she cared about without hesitation.
She was preceded in death by her husband and the love of her life, Jack K. Chambers, whose memory remained a constant presence in her heart.
She is survived by her devoted children, Pamela Chambers O’Rourke and Paul Chambers; her loving son-in-law, Tim O’Rourke; and her future daughter-in-law, Dina Bass. Her legacy continues through her cherished grandchildren, Morgan Malley, Jackson O’Rourke, and Celebrity Chambers, and her treasured great-granddaughter, Avril Malley.
A service honoring Shirley’s life will be held at Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery on Monday, July 21st at 10:00 AM, with a reception to follow.
She will be remembered for her wit, strength, unwavering love for her family—and for being exactly who she was, unapologetically.
