Shirley Rae Rivenbark Walker was born on September 25, 1935, in Wallace, North Carolina, the daughter of George Bryant and Katie Blanton Rivenbark. She graduated from Wallace High School and worked for the Wilmington, N.C., Star-News. In 1961, she married James D. Walker and later lived in Wilmington, North Carolina; Baltimore, Maryland; Highland Park, Illinois; Norman, Oklahoma, and Katy, Texas. In each of these locations, she was employed as a graphics arts designer, advancing as an expert in the computer age. She worked for various publications, including the Wilmington (N.C.) Star-News, Baltimore (Md) News-American, and Speedhorse (Oklahoma) Publications, retiring in 2010 as a graphics arts designer for the Katy (Texas) Independent School District. She is survived by her loving husband of 59 years James D. Walker, daughter Kelly Margret, son Daniel Curtis, and five grandchildren: Curtis Walker, Kacie Cardenas, David Cardenas Jr., Shaelie Cardenas and Dakota Ashby. Mrs. Walker is preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters. A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 pm on Friday, October 23, 2020 at Advantage Funeral Home, 7010 Chetwood Dr. Houston, Tx 77081.
