Sondra Elise Peterson Helms, 73, of Schulenburg, Texas entered into rest on April 2, 2019. She was born in Houston, Texas on March 29, 1946 to parents Emil and Elizabeth Peterson, and went on to graduate with a Bachelor of Science degree from Lamar University in 1968.
Sondra was an accomplished tennis player who won many tournaments with her sister, Wanda, as they competed in Doubles Tennis. She was a member of the Northgate Country Club where she continued her passion of playing for many more years. Whenever she wasn't busy perfecting her backhand, she enjoyed coaching soccer for a girls team, watching Wheel of Fortune, Let's Make A Deal, and playing the piano. Sondra also loved the color yellow, shopping, eating chinese food, and watching kids play sports - especially baseball, soccer, and volleyball.
She is survived by her loving husband Roger Helms; daughter Bridget Jacobs and husband Lowell Jacobs of Weimar and their two sons, Justin and Sean; son Chad Helms and wife Melissa Helms of Schulenburg and their children, Caitlynn, Blake, Avery, and Easton; sister Wanda Bailey of Spring, and brother Allan Peterson of College Station. She was preceded in death by her parents Emil and Elizabeth Peterson, and her grandson Dayton Helms.
A visitation will be held in her honor on Tuesday, April 9, 2019 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at American Heritage Funeral Home, 10710 Veterans Memorial Drive, Houston, Texas 77038. The Celebration of Life service will commence at 12:30 p.m. after which she will be escorted to the Houston National Cemetery, 10410 Veterans Memorial Drive, Houston, Texas, 77038 where she will be laid to rest.
