This is terrible news! I actually recommended her for great teacher from HCC this semester even though I took her a year ago and A half ago. I can't believe this, I'm doing bad in anatomy 2 and all this semester I thought about emailing her and asking if she taught it. I'm heartbroken that she left this world, I'm so sorry to Mrs.Kamrani's family. She was a phenomenal professor, I learned so much from her, her excitement for biology was the best thing a professor could do, hands down the BEST professor I had. I wish it wasn't true. She was so kind and so sweet. I started reading the comment and my hear dropped. I can't believe it. Maybe you Rest In Peace! 

My dear friend Sonia, for the pas 20 years we didn't see eachother much, but we always enjoyed talking and sharing. I was so happy when you gave birth to your two preceious sons. I always enjoyed you talking about your kids and looking at your pictures. I was happy to know my friend is living happily with her family somewhere in the world. Thinking about you going so early and leaving  behind your kids bring lots of tear to my eyes. I hope they grow up strong and happy and make you proud again. I pray for your family to find a way to deal with your abcence.

My beloved Sonia,

Since your birthday is here, I thought I wrote you something. There is a lot to say, but don't know how to start. You know that among us (your cousins), you are the pretties one, with those blue eyes and sweet smiles. I kind of hesitate to write in past tense. Because I don't want to think that we lost you. I am more thinking that you changed your appearances. From now on we have to talk to you or look at you in our thoughts. We all are back to our routines, busy running everywhere, getting angry, happy, sad and ... But not everybody can't cope easily with this way, Specially your mom, Mahnaz, your beautiful sons, Arshiya and Ariya, your brothers Keyvan and Kamyar. I was told that Arshiya took over and try to do whatever you used to do and be a great big brother to Ariya. It is so great but he also needs to be a kid himself and opens up too.

We are not in control of when and how to be born or die. But we can control how to live, mostly. You are a great example for this. You always wanted to go all the way and get your PhD. Despite of having two small boys and not having any other helps, not only you did it, but also you did it GREAT! Becoming a professor always was your dream. And you know what? You were so good at it too! Your name is always is going to be in The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston and MD Anderson Cancer Center, with your own scholarship

Loosing you in this world has a very very big impact in me. You are with me most of the time. I laugh and cry with you, for you and ... The only way that is kind of comforting for me is: I think we all have some specific time to be in this world. Based on what, these times were written, don't know? Sometimes I even doubt God's will too! If I want to start, all I am going to say is why, why, ....WHY? I know that I don't ever get an answer for that. It is hard, so hard, very hard. But unfortunately or fortunately we all can and will go through this. But sometimes we just don't want to! 

All I want to say is Happy Birthday my beautiful Sonia! Thanks for being a very nice, kind, funny, charming, smart, hard working, caring, great, wonderful, beautiful (inside & out), amazing, loving. person. In one word all I can say: Thank you for being YOU! Love you always...

It is with great sadness that we at the University of Houston - Downtown have come to learn of Dr. Kamrani's passing. Our hearts and thoughts go out to all of Dr. Kamrani's family, friends, and students.

From BIOL 1406 (72041), Monday-Wednesday, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. class as they expressed their grief about Dr. Sonia Kamrani, professor: 

She cared because if we didn't do well on a quiz, she would divide us into groups to work on a problem and explain our process for whatever answer we come up with. She would even give us 5 extra points if we participated in these groups.

I liked her smile.  She was always smiling.

She was alive to her students.

She would give us personal advice in her lectures.

She was kind.

She was so sweet.

She was patient.

She was very smart.

She was funny!

She came to class with a great attitude, even when she wasn't feeling well during the last class we had with her.

She really cared about us.

She was dedicated.

Once when I emailed her, she replied that it was very important that I understand the process of why a principle works instead of just memorizing it.

She was empathetic.  When I wasn't feeling well, she expressed concern like she really cared.

When teaching us, she used lots of colors on the board to describe what she was saying.

She always found other real-life examples for us to demonstrate what she was saying.

She was what a teacher should be.

 Even though we had her for a short time [13 weeks], she was really great and showed she cared about us.

Whenever you had a question, she would smile!  She would always say, don't be afraid to ask questions.'

"She was having trouble breathing on Monday but was still trying to teach us." (That was the day prior to her passing.)

"I could tell she wasn't just teaching for a paycheck. She was really dedicated and committed to making sure we understood what she was saying."

I was a colleague of Dr. Kamrani's at Houston Community College. I was so sad to hear of her passing. My condolences and prayers for her family in this very difficult time.

May the joy and sunshine Sonia brought to each of our lives live on in  all of our hearts. All who knew her were truly blessed to have her in their lives.  Sonia, your earthly presence we be missed.

Professor Kamrani, It was a privilege to have met you. To have found an amazing, beautiful, intelligent woman. You put so much effort into your students, friends, career and family with ease and grace. You were my greatest supporter and mentor. The number one lesson you taught me was to KNOW and UNDERSTAND and do not just remember. I will apply that to everything in my life. I will do great things because you advised me not to settle.  

To her family... thankyou for everything. She talked about her family quite a lot in class. She loved you all more that you can imagine. You all and her sons were the reason she worked so hard... She made a difference. She made an impact that we could all hope to achieve.

I was one of the student in her 8AM biology class and am still in shock....I often asked her questions one on one and she was happy and eager to answer. She was an intelligent , beautiful lady! I will MISS HER!!!!

We were fortunate enough to be able to work one on one with Professor Kamrani and it was always a joy to help. She always tried making our job easier and was very thankful for our help. She will be truly missed. Prayers for peace and comfort to the family and friends during this difficult time.

Dr. Sonia Kamrani's HCC Southeast College Biology 1406 Class on Tuesday & Thursday 8 a.m.

On 11/12/2015 Thursday, 8 a.m., about 15 students and 1 faculty member gathered in shock and disbelief at the time they would generally be in class with Dr. Kamrani. Instead, two HCC Southeast College Counselors were present to meet with them as they sadly mourned the sudden loss of their special Biology professor. Students were in tears as they openly shared their feelings, and agreed that their expressions could be posted in Dr. Kamrani's Obit Comments section. The following descriptive represent their own words:

Sensitive to our needs in class; 

Very organized;

She was detail minded; 

Very smart;

Dedicated (she would patiently stay after class to explain a concepts to us that we didn't understand);

She went the extra mile even when I was mad at her;

Accommodating for my personal preferences in learning -- I have to see things graphically before I can understand them, and Dr. Kamrani would intentionally use illustrations to demonstrate her lectures;

Would take extra time and effort to assist us so we'd understand;

She always wanted to know "why" we perceived a problem a certain way. She would not criticize us but tried to understand our point of view;

Very understanding;
Receptive to our opinions;
She would laugh with us!  She always seem to see humor in situations;

She loved her profession;
