

Susan Matthews Ellerbeck, age 55 was born in Biloxi, Mississippi and left to be with the Lord, Sunday, the 28th of June 2015. She grew up in Birmingham, AL, and her youth she was very fond of horses. She and her beloved horse Billy won numerous ribbons in horse shows. Susan graduated from Mountain Brook High School, as well as an active member of the Independent Presbyterian Church in Birmingham. She graduated from the University of Alabama where she was a member of the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority, and remained an active member of the Alumni Association. After college, she moved to Houston and was employed in multiple positions, including Vice President of Elleron Telecommunications. More than anything else, she was a devoted and loving mother, daughter, sister, and friend.
Susan Participated in St. Martin’s Rally for the Troops, St. Martha’s Guild, College Prayers and Care, the Joy of Giving Bazaar, Junior League of Houston, Houston Safari Club, and Houston Ferrari Club. She was a member of the International Committee of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. She also volunteered her time at MD Anderson, and Memorial Herman Hospital. She was also a member of St. Martin’s Episcopal Church. She was a true person for others.
Susan spread joy and love wherever she went, as well as touched the hearts and lives of everyone. She treated everyday like a gift, and always possessed a contagious positive and optimistic attitude.
Susan is survived by her children, Ronald Lorne Ellerbeck Jr., Elizabeth Lauren Ellerbeck, and Cameron Wheeler Ellerbeck; parents, Dr. and Mrs. George Wheeler Matthews Jr. (Jeanie Jemison), brothers, Dr. George Wheeler Matthews III, Robert Jemison Matthews, and Dean Dillard Matthews, and her ex-husband, Ronald Lorne Ellerbeck, to whom she remained close. A special family remembrance to her devoted friend and helper Teresa Oleas, as well as the staff of M.D. Anderson hospital.
A memorial service will be conducted at one o’clock in the afternoon on Tuesday, the 7th of July at St Martins Episcopal Church, 717 Sage Road in Houston. Immediately following, all are invited to greet the family during a reception in the adjacent Bagby Parish Hall.
