Suzanne Horne Roos joined her beloved Albert in Heaven on Monday, July 8, 2019. Suzanne was born in Houston, Texas on December 24, 1938 to Mary Elizabeth (Richardson) and John Hendrix Horne. She spent her early years in Houston until her father joined the Army and was stationed in Virginia outside of Washington, DC. After the war, the family returned to Houston and resided on McCue Road (considered the “sticks” at the time but is present day Galleria). Suzanne went to River Oaks Elementary, Lanier Junior High and Lamar High School. During a church dance with a friend, she met the love of her life, Albert Ernest Roos, Jr. They married on December 21, 1955 and were the first to marry in the new Chapel at St. Matthew Lutheran Church. This began their 63-year love affair.
Suzanne was a fiery red head who nurtured a large family. She also worked at the church school taking care of the cafeteria and feeding many school children at St. Matthew. She loved the Lord and served in many capacities over the years, best known for running the cafeteria and helping with the Fall Festivals.
Suzanne is preceded in death by her beloved husband Albert Ernest Roos, Jr., her parents, Mary Elizabeth and John Hendrix Horne, and her sister Jean Bentley.
Suzanne is survived by her children Patricia Vogt, Albert Ernest Roos, III (Cheryl), John Roos (Beth), Elizabeth Perkins, and Christopher Roos; by her grandchildren Chad Vogt, Keith Vogt, Nicole Banda (Issac), Kyle Roos (Lyn), Jillian Roos, Justin Roos (Amber), Jordan McKendree (James), Jarrod Perkins, Lauren Fenley (Chris), Holly Roos, and Adam Roos(Jennifer); by her great grandchildren Izaiah Banda, Elijah Banda, Nevaeh Banda and Sophia Roos; as well as many nieces and nephews.
There will be a visitation for family and friends at Forest Park Westheimer, 12800 Westheimer Rd. at Dairy Ashford on Friday, July 12th from 5-8 pm. A celebration of Suzanne’s life on Saturday, July 13, 2019 at St. Matthew Lutheran Church, 5315 Main St. Houston, TX 77004. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. with the service following at 11 a.m. Interment will be at Forest Park Westheimer directly after the service. Pallbearers will be her grandsons Chad Vogt, Keith Vogt, Kyle Roos, Justin Roos, Jarrod Perkins, Adam Roos, James McKendree, Issac Banda and Chris Fenley. Honorary Pallbearer is her good friend Richard Goodson.
Flowers may be sent to Forest Park Westheimer. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. Matthew Lutheran Church or to Alzheimer’s research through Alzheimers.org (https://act.alz.org) in honor of Suzanne Roos.
