Urbano Reyes Muniz was born in Edna, Texas on January 31, 1949 and passed away on Saturday, January 4, 2020, in Houston following a short illness. He retired in 1996 from Southern Pacific Railroad as a track foreman.
Urbano was a devoted volunteer at the Villa de Matel for 21 years, as well as a beloved friend of the Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word and the Passionists Priests and Brothers. He also belonged to the CCVI Houston Associates. He was a 4th Degree Knight of Columbus. He served in the U.S. Marine Corp from May 1968 to May 1970.
He is predeceased by his mother Tomasita Reyes Muniz and his father Hubano Muniz, as well as two brothers, Paul and Steve. Surviving members of his family are his loving wife, Rachel Muniz; devoted sons Jeremy Muniz and Randy Muniz from Austin and Joey Muniz from Houston; siblings from East Bernard Ralph Muniz, David Muniz, George Muniz, Rosita Chavez, Liz Hutchison (Eagle Lake), Wanda Sanchez, and Chris Muniz.
Visitation with the family will be Wednesday, January 8, 2020 from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm in The Hunters Creek Chapel at Earthman Funeral Directors, 8303 Katy Freeway, Houston, Texas 77024. Funeral Mass will be conducted on Thursday, January 9, 2020 at 10:00 am at the Co-Cathedral of the Sacred Heart, 1111 St. Joseph Parkway, Houston, Texas 77002 with a military honors graveside at 12:30 pm at Houston National Cemetery, 10410 Veterans Memorial Drive, Houston, Texas 77038.
In lieu of flowers, family requests donations be made in Urbano's memory to the American Cancer Society or Catholic Charities.
