

Vera Jean Perez, age 72, passed away on March 17, 2026. Born on July 28, 1953, she was a cherished, faithful, generous, and kind-hearted woman whose life was marked by devotion to family, service to others, and steadfast faith. Vera resided in her Houston, Texas much of her adult life, and enjoyed a few relaxing years in Atlanta, Georgia.
Vera was born to her loving parents, Henry and Mary Williams, in Montgomery, Alabama. She was the oldest of ten children and was the first grandchild to Noah and Pastoria Thomas—an early role that reflected the care and responsibility she would continue to show throughout her life.
Vera was well respected in the early childhood education community and dedicated over 35 years to the field. She was also an entrepreneur for over 40 years, owning both a childcare center and a retail community store, and she approached her work with diligence, warmth, and a sincere desire to support those around her.
Vera adored beautiful flowers in nature and arranging them in her home. She had an intense love of all things antique and spent many hours collecting rare treasures while visiting local antique shops in her spare time. Her exquisite sense of fashion proved she was a true fashion icon, and she loved her collection of gorgeous clothes and accessories. She had a deep passion for singing, especially “Diana Ross’ songs, since she was one of her favorite singers — this amazing talent brought joy to those who knew her and reflected her vibrant spirit.
She dedicated her life as one of Jehovah's Witnesses in her early years. Vera loved preaching and teaching others about her faith and attended the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah Witnesses at the Meadows Congregation in Houston. She also took great delight in visiting her family members every Sunday, a tradition that spoke of the deep value she placed in connection and togetherness. She was always so excited to spend time with her beautiful Grandson Eris and took delight in all the joy he brought to her life.
Vera’s charitable nature was evident in the way she often offered her childcare services to families in need. Her legacy is one of steady compassion, faithful devotion, and generous care—qualities that will be remembered with gratitude and enduring love to all the many lives she enriched over the years.
She was preceded in death by her loving father, Henry Williams, Also, her sweet baby nephew Trey Alexander Williams, and beautiful nieces Ashley Jean Davis, and Terri Ja'nee Daniels.
Vera lived a warm and full life, she was a loving wife, dedicated mother, and beloved sister. She is survived by her husband Zacharia Perez, her son Christopher Cole Freeman (Erin), siblings David Earl Williams (Barbara), Angela Regina Williams, Henry Terry Williams (Daidra), Jeffery Williams (Paula), Pastoria Sheila Qualls (Sheldon), Myran Williams, Irish Carolena Calli Davis (Dennis), Aaron Hosea Williams (Yolanda) and Natasha Unice Moffett (Eric). In addition, she was an adored aunt to many nieces and nephews. She also treasured her little Grandson Eris Freeman.
We loved our “Big Sister Jean” and will miss her until we can see her again in the new world!

A Memorial Service for Jean will be held Saturday, May 2, 2026, beginning at 2:00 pm at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses Meadows Congregation located at 11611 Beechnut St (Building A), Houston, TX 77072.
