

Verda B. “Lump” Eans, a devoted wife, loving mother, and cherished friend, passed away peacefully on March 19, 2026, at the age of 77, surrounded by her family.
She was born on August 16, 1948, in Flatonia, Texas, to the late Robert Lee Davis, Sr. and Odean Tennon. Verda lived a life rooted in service, compassion, and unwavering devotion to her family and community.
After graduating from Flatonia High School, Verda began a remarkable 35-year career with the Houston Independent School District (HISD). She served at Sunnyside Elementary School and Cullen Middle School, where she became known for her kindness, dedication, and her special ability to make everyone feel valued. Her impact on students, colleagues, and the school community will be remembered for generations. She retired in 2003, leaving behind a powerful legacy of care and commitment.
Verda married her best friend and beloved husband, Rufus Clifton “Tip” Eans, and together they shared over 45 years of love, laughter, and treasured memories. As a mother, she was the heart and foundation of her family, always offering guidance, strength, and unconditional love.
She found joy in life’s simple pleasures—watching “The Young and the Restless” and “Sistas”, attending family gatherings, traveling to the casino, playing cards with her card club family, and participating in the annual family reunion in Welder, Texas. Her warm spirit and joyful presence brought comfort and happiness to all who knew her.
She leaves to cherish her memory her loving son, David Eans (Anyssa Cormier), her bonus sons, Derrick Cornealius, Clifton Cornealius (Kimberly), and her sister, Oler-Lee “Nean” Davis, along with a host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews, extended family members and dear friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Rufus C. Eans; her parents, Odean Tennon and Robert Lee Davis, Sr.; her bonus daughter, Joyce Eans; her sisters, Pauline Davis, Rosie Lee Jenning, Mary J. Davis; and her brothers, Robert L. Davis, Jr. and L.C. Henry
Verda will be deeply missed but forever remembered for her love, strength, and the countless lives she touched.
