

Virginia Durand, 82, of Spring, Texas, passed away on October 18, 2025. She was born on October 5, 1943, in Madison County, Texas, to Truman W. Moon and Myrtle Henry. Virginia graduated from Sam Houston and received her high school diploma. She met Fred in Houston, and the two were married in July of 1961.
Virginia dedicated nearly three decades of her life to public service, working for the Harris County Clerk’s Office. She retired as the Director of the Real Property Filing Department after 29 years and 6 months of service. She was known for her professionalism, leadership, and commitment to her work and community.
Outside of her career, Virginia had many passions. She found great joy in sewing, arts and crafts, quilting, crochet, and gardening. Her creativity, warmth, and nurturing spirit touched the lives of all who knew her.
Virginia was preceded in death by her husbands, Fred Guenther and Sidney Durand; her infant son, Gary Wayne Guenther; and her siblings, Myrtle Lean Fletcher, Alvin Moon, Jean Rutledge, and Bernice Moon.
She is survived by her daughter, Dena Gill, and her son, Danny Guenther, and his wife, Sonja. She was a loving grandmother to Cody Lewis, Clayton Lewis, Madison Guenther, and Landon Guenther. Her great-grandchildren include Ember Lewis, Charlie Lewis, Addison Lewis, and Knox Folsom.
Virginia is also survived by two daughters through marriage, Linda Denison and her husband Edward, and Shirley Shook and her husband Larry. Known lovingly as “Grandma Ginger,” she was a cherished grandmother to Jason Shook, Jennifer Shook, Trey Denison and his wife Stacy, Tracy Judson and her husband Kevin, and Trina Bentley and her husband Taylor. She leaves behind eleven great-grandchildren.
She is also survived by her brother, Lamar Moon; half-brothers, Ernie Walker and Steven Walker; and her half-sister, Jeanette Pendleton.
Serving as pallbearers are Landon Guenther, Cody Lewis, Clayton Lewis, Patrick Guenther, Ronald Rutledge, and Michael Weil.
Virginia's legacy of love, kindness, and service will live on through the many lives she touched. Her family extends their heartfelt gratitude to all who have supported them during this time of remembrance.
A visitation for Virginia will be held Thursday, October 23, 2025 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Brookside Funeral Home, 13747 Eastex Freeway, Houston, TX 77039. A funeral will occur Friday, October 24, 2025 from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM, 13747 Eastex Freeway, Houston, TX 77039. A graveside will occur Friday, October 24, 2025 from 10:30 AM to 11:00 AM at Brookside Memorial Park, 13747 Eastex Freeway, Houston, TX 77039.
