It is with heavy but rejoicing hearts that we announce the passing of Virginia Ladell Edwards, who went to meet her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on June 24th, 2025, at the age of 95. Born in Corpus Christi, Texas, on September 8th, 1929, Virginia lived a life marked by love, dedication, and service to her husband, her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, her siblings, her church family and extended family as well.
Virginia was a devoted wife to her husband, Donald for 58 years, a loving mother to son Dale and daughter Emma, a proud, doting grandmother to Brian and Corey and great grandmother to Ashton, Peyton, Owen, Gerard, Sophia and Brennan Boutwell.
Virginia was a long-time member of Central Baptist Church in Houston Texas where she loved to serve and worship her precious Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She was also a beloved member of the Young “At” Hearts “as she always called it” Sunday School Class.
She was the middle child of five whose presence was felt by all who knew her. Her warm spirit and ever-present smile made her an instant friend to everyone she met. Virginia gave her life to Christ at a young age, and her unwavering faith was the cornerstone of her life. Virginia was the “Prayer Warrior” of our family and loved to pray for everyone she knew.
Virginia is preceded in death by her father, Burley C. O’Neal, her mother, Emma (Smith) O’Neal, her sister, Ruby Harris and husband George, her sister, Doris Morris and husband Bob and her brother Burley Charles O’Neal.
Virginia is survived by her brother, Wayne Lawrence O’Neal and wife Katy of Orange Grove, Texas, son, Donald Dale Edwards and wife Debbie of Missouri City, Tx, her daughter Emma Diane Boutwell and husband Doyle Boutwell, of Houston, Texas, her grandson Brian Allen Boutwell and Great Grandsons Ashton Boutwell and wife, Carlie, Peyton and Owen Boutwell of Houston, Tx., her grandson, Corey Scott Boutwell and wife Krystal, and Great Grandchildren, Gerard, Sophia and Brennan Boutwell of Kingwood, Tx. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and many dear friends, neighbors and church family who will miss her deeply.
We take comfort in knowing that her legacy lives on through the example she was, the lessons she taught us, the love she shared, and the many precious memories we will forever hold in our hearts.
A Visitation will be held Saturday, June 28th, 2025 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 Noon, with a Funeral Service at 12:00 Noon at Central Baptist Church, 2855 Greenhouse Road, Houston, Texas 77084. Burial will follow at a later date at the Houston National Veterans Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers the family asked that donation to the Central Baptist Church Building Fund be made.
We would like to express our sincere thanks for all the love, support and prayers from our friends and church family.
We would also like to extend deeply grateful thanks to the staff of Mason Creek Transitional Care of Katy, Texas for the personal, loving, nurturing and professional care they provided to Mrs. Virginia who they called “Mama” for the last several months.
