Virginia “Ginger” Kramer Upton was born in Houston, TX on May 22, 1948. She passed away on November 7, 2014 due to complications from lymphoma. Ginger was a proud graduate of Lamar High School (1966) and the University of Texas School of Nursing, where she was first in her class. While attending UT she met and married the love of her life, Wade Elwood Upton. She worked at her “dream job” at Methodist Hospital at graduation, and then at The Woman’s Hospital of Texas, and as a school nurse at St. Michael Catholic School. Although she loved nursing, her primary vocations were family and friendship. She had many lifelong and new friends who were all very important to her.
Ginger was preceded in death by her parents Gertrude Erwin Kramer and Walter Francis Kramer, and her godson Bo Neuhaus. She is survived by her husband Wade; daughters Lindy Upton McGee and Katherine “Katie” Upton Daily; their husbands Tom McGee and John Daily; grandchildren Elizabeth and Wade McGee, and Patrick, Virginia, and Maisy Daily; sisters Eleanor Magee and Katherine DeLorenzo; their husbands Fred Magee and Ken DeLorenzo; brother-in-law Dave Upton and his wife Terry Upton; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
At her Funeral Mass, her godchildren Cindy, Lauren, and Charlie (representing his brother, Bo) will be reading the scriptures.
Ginger will be remembered at a Rosary Monday, November 10th at 7:30pm at St. Michael Catholic Church, 1801 Sage Road, Houston, Texas 77056 with visitation beginning at 6:30pm. A Funeral Mass will be held the following day at 10:00am at St. Michael Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Bo’s Place, 10050 Buffalo Speedway, Houston, TX 77054, an organization close to Ginger’s heart.
