Wesley Frank Krueger, 90, of Houston passed away Saturday, February 3rd, 2024 at Brookdale Spring Shadows Assisted Living Houston. Today we are here to celebrate his life as a loving son, father, brother, grandfather, great grandfather, and dear friend to so many people.
Wesley was born in Houston to Lynn and Ester Krueger on October 20, 1933. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother Lynn Krueger; and sister, Lydia Lands. Wesley is survived by his wife Bertha (Puddin') Krueger, son Ray Krueger and daughter in law Diane, daughter Tammy Johnston and son in law Dan, son Kenneth Krueger and daughter in law Kathleen, son Ben Krueger and daughter in law Beth, daughter Katherine McNeal and fiancé Gene Frazier, grandchildren Jason Johnson, Brent McCormack, Matthew Krueger, Melanie Whitmarsh, Kelsie Docherty, Nichole McNeal, Alana Nordquist, Carson Johnston, Tiffany Segal, Jamie Harris, Kyle Krueger and Grace Krueger and 14 great grandchildren.
Raised in Houston Texas, he attended Reagan high school, served in the US Navy during the Korean war, he attended University of Houston, worked at Schlumberger for 43 years and early in his career moonlighted as a security guard. After retiring he worked for State Represented Dwayne Bohac as a community organizer. He was a devout Lutheran he attended Immanuel Lutheran, Gethsemane Lutheran and Trinity Lutheran church in Houston and was very involved in Lutheran Chorale and a barber shop quartet singing tenor and baritone.
Wesley had a modest upbringing in the Houston heights. This drove him to get an education, work hard, be frugal and provide for his family. His children have been blessed by his example.
He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather always positive and friendly. He was involved in Boy Scouts with his sons, coached sports and attended many extracurricular activities for his children and grandchildren. He also was our bus driver on family vacations. The last one for 6 weeks in a green van with no air conditioning, 6 adolescents, pulling a trailer and covering almost all of the National Parks in the western half of the US.
He loved our mother (Puddin’) and they did escape from their kids on occasion. Later in life they traveled extensively to exotic places such as Africa, Asia, Europe and even Australia.
One of our fondest memories is the way Dad treated Mom on their anniversaries. One time he brought home a loaf of bread a jug of wine and wrote her a note “A loaf of bread a jug of wine and thou!”
He enjoyed hunting and fishing with his sons and daughters several of which continue to be enthusiastic about these activities. He loved to play golf and worked with Upbring at their annual golf tournament. He also enjoyed smoking his pipes and he had many pipes to choose from! Last but not least he liked his daily beer, consumed tons of cheese and crackers and was a meat and potatoes guy. Fisherman Friend, peppermint candies and Bluebell ice cream were always on hand.
Ray remembers "Dad's careful attention manning a smoker at the families annual deer sausage making fest. Always ensuring we had smoke not heat for sausage perfection!"
Tammy remembers "Her first deer hunt in Segovia, Texas where dad told her to drive alone northwest of San Antonio to a dirt road, take a right and follow the road to the camp. Later in life she ask dad "Weren't you worried about me driving alone more than 250 miles to a place I had never been?" Dad replied "No I knew you could do it." The experience empowered her to be independent"
Ken remembers "Dad taught to hunt, fish, work on cars, fix household things, be a good Christian, volunteer and give generously. Dad give him the love of popcorn and you didn't dare ask him to share. "This was one of his simple pleasures and now is one of mine!"
Ben remembers "his kindness and work ethic. Especially his speech when we won the prep league football championship in our final prep league season. Also, that God provided a great sunset at Ben's farm the night of his passing. "
Katy remembers "Daddy was always a joker and had a way of always making everyone laugh. So I have a daddy joke to share that is forever in my heart. Daddy says: "Guess who I saw yesterday?" I reply "Who?" Daddy answers: "Everyone I looked at!" I loved our daddy!"
Above all Wesley was a devout Christian man and raised his children the same. Church was an integral part of his life as was the love of God. Surely he is with Jesus now as Jesus said in John 14:1-3.
My father's house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.
