At the age of 17, Paul went into the United States Marine Corp. He served from 1955 to 1959 and was a 3 stripe Sargent when he left the Marines. After the Marines he became a Houston Texas Firefighter. He started his career with the fire department in 1960, moving up the ranks and retired after 42 years in 2002 as a District Chief.
He was raised Baptist but later in life he became a Catholic. He believed in Christ and was saved. His family has great comfort knowing he is in heaven rejoicing with his family, especially his wife Nellie Sue.
Paul is preceded in death by his children’s mother, Nellie Sue (31 yrs), their stepmom, Paula Jean (22 yrs), his parents, Amy and Leroy, his son, Cary Dewain, his grandson, Cody Paul, his brother, Robert Steward and numerous other family members.
He is survived by his wife, Phyllis, his 6 children: Michael Steward (Lisa), Deanna Gatlin, Tamara Wiland (Tim), Sherri Pollard (David), David Paul Steward (DJ), Stephen Steward (Malaika). 13 Grandchildren: Jeremy, Christi, Jessica, Aaron, Kristen, Matthew, Nathan, Amanda, Elizabeth, Lindsey, Kyle, Kacie and Josh. 23 Great Grandchildren and 2 Great Great Grandchildren. His 2 sisters, Becky Williamson and Janet Holt. He also had numerous stepchildren, step grandchildren, step great grandchildren and other family members.
Family was everything to him and he opened up his heart and home to everyone. He LOVED his family tremendously and they loved him back just as equally. His greatest achievement in his legacy is his family.
Always ended every card, letter, email with Semper Fi and that he loved us from Alpha to Omega. So with love from your family Semper Fi and Alpha to Omega Daddy/Papa.
