Wilkie Thompson Sr.

Wilkie received his GED and received his ASE Certification from The National Institute of Automotive Service. He met Vera Holmes in Negreet, Louisiana and married on July 1, 1961. Wilkie had a career in Diesel Mechanic and OTR 18 wheeler driver at Kenworth Freightliner, and Mesaba Texas Truck Sales for over 45 years. He was a member of Greater Love Church where he became a Deacon. He had a passion for watching westerns and whittling distinctive art with his knives.

Everyone knew and admired Wilkie in the trucking business. He was so intune with diesel trucks and passenger cars, that he could listen to the engine and make a diagnosis on the spot. His sons, Wilkie Thompson Jr. and Gary Lynn Thompson learned these attributes from him and became mechanics in their own rights. While raising his children, he was strict but loving. He never raised his voice in anger. A word or stern expression was enough to keep his children in line. He and his wife, Vera were very much in love and spent 60 years in Holy matrimony.

Wilkie is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Vera Lee Thompson; parents, Joe Perry and America Thompson; sisters, Jenny, Versa Lee, Geneva, Georgia, Minnie V., and Rose Lee; and a nephew, Lloyd Charles.

Left to cherish his memory are his children, Wilkie Thompson Jr. of Anchorage, Alaska, Gary Lynn Thompson, and Lisa Renee Jijon of Houston, Texas; seven grandchildren, Wilkie Thompson III, Tonya Renee Courville, John Thompson, Jason Thompson, Imari Alexander Davis, JaiLisa Alexus Jones, and Jesus Jijon Jr.; nine great grandchildren, Jeremiah Thompson, Michael Courville, Zoe Courville, Kingston Courville, Wilkie Thompson IV, Anthony Thompson, Isaac Thompson, Tiana Thompson, and Ronin Thompson; sister and brother-in-law, Chester and Jolene Charles; niece, Diane Charles; great niece and nephew, Antionette and Wayne; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and a vast number of friends.

A visitation for Wilkie will be held Saturday, July 20, 2024 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Brookside Funeral Home, 13747 Eastex Freeway, Houston, Texas 77039. A home going celebration will occur Saturday, July 20, 2024 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM, 13747 Eastex Freeway, Houston, Texas 77039. A committal service will occur Saturday, July 20, 2024 from 12:00 PM to 12:30 PM at Brookside Funeral Home & Memorial Park.
