

William (Bill) Hubert Bunch, Jr., 94 affectionately known as Pop-pop, of Clarewood House, Houston, Texas passed away on December 10, 2019, following a brief hospitalization. He was born in El Dorado, Arkansas. on April 25, 1925 to William H. and Hattie Bunch. He was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Mary Lou Bunch.
A veteran of WWII, he served in the Navy from 1943-1946. After the war he returned home to Arkansas to pay off his mother's house following the death of his father in June 1946.
He went to the University of Oklahoma on the GI bill and graduated in 1950 with a B.S. in Petroleum Engineering. Following graduation, he worked in the Oil and Gas industry beginning in El Dorado, Arkansas, then moved to Snyder, Texas, Texas City, Houston, Texas, Kilgore, Texas and finally back to Houston. He retired from Chevron in Dec 1990.
He was a member of St. Luke's UMC Gethsemane Campus. As a young man he become a member of the Boy Scout of America and began a lifelong love of their program. He was especially proud of all of the Eagle Scout in his family. First a nephew Bruce Brisley, then his son David followed by grandsons, J.T. Gasson and Matthew Bunch.
Always serving and helping others, he volunteered in many positions with his church including many years with their Food Bank. He also was a 20 year Red Coat volunteer at Memorial Hermann Southwest Hospital where he was known as Mr. Bill.
He is survived by his daughter, Martha Bunch Gasson-Heallen and husband John P. Heallen, Daughter Shirley Bunch Burton and husband Larry Burton, son David W. Bunch and wife Jeanne Bunch, grandchildren; John T. Gasson and wife Melanie, Sara Gasson Allen and husband Joey, Rebecca Burton Davis and husband Justin, Rachel Burton Russo and husband Michael, Matthew Bunch, Allison Bunch, great-grandchildren; John William Gasson, Emily Paige Gasson, Griffin Scott Allen, Sawyer Jack Allen and Sloan Violet Allen. Bill also loved to visit with son-in-law John (J.P) about his five children and their families especially the eight grandchildren he and Martha loved to share stories and about.
