Bill Vaughan passed away peacefully in his sleep on February 13, 2021 in Houston, Texas at the age of 85. He was born in San Angelo on March 25, 1935 to Rudy and Isabel Vaughan.
Bill attended public school in San Angelo and University of Texas earning his Petroleum Engineering degree with the class of 1957. He met his wife Sally Vaughan in Houston on a blind date to Howard Johnson’s in 1961, and they got married on January 18, 1963. Over the following years they had 3 children: Scott, Sam and Sara.
Bill worked for several oil and gas companies over the years including Texas Eastern, Panhandle Eastern, Duke Energy and IGC. He had a strong work ethic and was proud of being promoted to Vice President of Texas Eastern. During his consulting years when he was retired, he enjoyed the work plus the lunches with colleagues. He spent his retirement years researching his family’s history, watching Astros games, spoiling his dog, Andy, and taking gambling trips to Reno, Nevada with his wife.
Bill cultivated great friendships over his life and always emphasized how important friendships were to happiness. He cherished organizing and attending the Glenmore school reunions to keep up with his friends.
Despite his health challenges in later years, he always maintained an optimistic outlook on life and was beloved by nurses who cared for him. The family would like to thank the following caregivers for their warmth and generosity of spirit through the years: Amy, Mahawa, Dawn and Deborah.
His wife of 45 years, Sally Vaughan, and his brother, Jack Vaughan, preceded Bill in death.
Survivors are his children Scott, Sam and Sara Vaughan, and grandson Liam Vaughan-Gul of Houston, Texas; nephews Grant and Ross Vaughan plus several cousins.
He was a dedicated family man and friend who kept us laughing with his dry sense of humor. He will be greatly missed.

The family will hold a visitation Tuesday, February 23, 2021 from 10:30 am until 12:00 pm in The Hunters Creek Chapel at Earthman Funeral Directors, 8303 Katy Freeway, Houston, Texas 77024 with a private family graveside service to follow at Forest Park Westheimer Cemetery.
