Zillie Tyner Thompson was the seventh child born to the late Joe Tom and Dorzetta Tyner. She departed this life August 10, 2014 at West Houston Medical Center in Houston, Texas. She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, John Thomas Tyner. Zillie spent her life sharing the gospel with anyone who would listen. She started preaching when she lived in the Bronx in New York; continued carrying the Word in Bay Minette, Alabama while working at Vanity Fair; returned to Troy, Alabama; then to Houston, Texas; and found a church home at Abundant Harvest Baptist Church. She started a Bible study for her three generations in her daughter’s home. In addition to carrying the Word, Zillie shared her life and all that she had with her family and friends. She was a dedicated prayer warrior for those in need of prayer and a devoted friend. Though we will miss her, may Heaven’s gates open wide to receiver, and may Jesus cradle her in His loving arms.
She leaves to cherish her memory a loving daughter Rosita Tyner-Howard and devoted son-in-law Robert Howard, both of Houston, Texas; six grandchildren – four she raised – Rebecca Tyner-Long, Deunka Tyner, Josh Tyner, Erica Lola Tyner, and Bobby Howard, all of Houston, Texas, and Stanford Tyner of Atlanta, Georgia; fourteen great-grandchildren; five brothers Willie Lee Tyner (Ethel), Edward Tyner (Jewel), Wallace Tyner (Rose Mae) of Troy, Alabama, Paul Tyner of Brooklyn, New York, James Robert Tyner (Ethel) of Ponce de Leon, Florida; four sisters Annie Lois Boswell (James), Diana Tyner Collins of Troy, Alabama, Annie Lee Bryan (Clifford) of Rincon, Georgia, Addie Tyner Sahbaee (Parviz) or San Jose, California; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, beloved friends, and a church family.
