

On Wednesday, November 26, Barbara Lyon Bert went to be with her Lord. She was born October 30, 1929 to Thomas and Nell Lyon in Turlock, CA. Barbara lived her entire life in Stanislaus County, graduating from Stanislaus Union Elementary School (1943), Modesto High School (1947), and Modesto Junior College (1949). Barbara continued her education at California State University, Stanislaus where she obtained her BA degree and teaching credential. After serving as a substitute teacher in Stanislaus County, she enjoyed a 28-year career in the Sylvan Union School District, teaching intermediate grades and computer classes.
Barbara volunteered countless hours tutoring students of the area. She loved to read and influenced many people to enjoy literature. Barbara was an active member of the Salida Fire Department's Women's Auxiliary and the Old Fishermen's RV Club. She enjoyed many friends in her life including her "Darling Girls." She loved people, family, gardening, camping, and traveling to visit family members in Germany. While riding the school bus to Modesto High School, Barbara met the love of her life, Charles (Chuck) Bert. They married in 1950 and together had three children and a wonderful , adventure-filled life.
Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Nell Lyon, and her younger son, Ted. Barbara is survived by her husband of 64 years, Chuck, her sister, Winona, her son Thomas (Karlene), daughter, Tami (Sonny), and daughter-in-law Quana (Jerry). She is also survived by five grandchildren, Thomas (Tiffany), Ted (Tracy), Patrick (Dana), C J (Lori), and Kyle (Adri). She was the very proud great-grandmother to Alyssa, Logan, Tucker, Caleb, Reese, Avery, Ian, Zoey, Thomas III, and Reid.
