Barbara Jean Andris was born January 14, 1931 to parents Joseph and Mary Andris, at the family home in Fresno. She passed away at her home in Modesto on February 9, 2023 at age 92. Home was where she loved to be.
Barbara, known also as Bobby, was raised on a farm with her sisters Maryann, Grace, and Geri. She loved animals and being outdoors. She helped on the farm and excelled in school. She was valedictorian of her 8th grade and high school graduating class.
Barbara married the love of her life, Perry Sedoo, and they had a wonderful marriage of 66-½ years. Together, they had four children: Jean Stiller (Thomas), Patti Boardrow (Patrick), Gary Sedoo (Renée), and David Sedoo (Randa). They were blessed with 10 grandchildren, and 10 great grandchildren.
Barbara had many jobs, but her 30-year career teaching preschool was the most rewarding and impactful. She was loved by all. Barbara’s work allowed her to be present for her family when they were home. Her greatest joy was raising her children and taking good care of her family. She loved to cook, sew and work in her garden. She made her home welcoming to all, and filled it with love and joy always.
Barbara was very involved in Geneva Presbyterian Church where she served as a Deacon and sang alto in the choir. After learning how to quilt, she formed a quilt group in 1987 at her church, which continues on today. At their peak, they were donating 100 quilts per year to Missions and the less fortunate. Over the past decade, many high school graduates have been recipients of individually designed quilts from this group. Barbara also made special quilts for family members and loved ones. Her zest for life, and joy of the Lord shone through her smile, whole-hearted laughter, and service to the community.
Barbara loved word games, especially the Jumble in the Modesto Bee. She was a whiz. She created word games for Bridal and Baby Showers, and was known for her personal letter-writing, which she continued until she was no longer able.
Barbara was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease in 2019, which made her final years more challenging. She was determined to keep pushing on, which she did for the remainder of her life. Her family took care of her when she could no longer take care of herself. She passed away February 9, 2023, from this life on earth. For her, there will be no more struggles or pain. For us, there is a void, but many life lessons and happy memories will live on.
Barbara was preceded in death by sisters Maryann Dressel and Grace Bankston, sons Joseph and Gary, sons-in-law Patrick and Thomas, and grandson Dustin Boardrow.
