Jack Adrian passed peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday, November 26, 2014. Jack was born and raised on a farm in Albany, Minn. He was the youngest of ten children. Jack loved sharing stories of his time on the farm with his children and grandchildren. He married Pat Smith and together they began raising their five children in Roseville, Minn.
In 1965, Jack moved his family to Modesto and established Mo-Cal Office Equipment. In just a few years, Mo-Cal was one of the largest distributors of Royal typewriters and Victor calculators. Jack's success was based on honesty, integrity, and a relentless work ethic. Local businesses knew him as a man with a "heart of gold" and the best joke teller in town. His children, Tom & Mary, have carried on his legacy by expanding Mo-Cal Office Solutions into San Joaquin & Merced counties.
Jack was devoted to the Catholic Church. Through his years in Modesto, he was a parishioner and usher at Our Lady of Fatima, St. Stanislaus, and St. Joseph's Church. Everyone knew Jack had a very special relationship with the Lord. Jack was very involved in Civitan International. He was instrumental in creating "Law Day" which honored our local law enforcement agencies with "Officer of the Year" awards. He also facilitated many fundraisers, most remembered for those darn Fruit Cakes around the holidays and the peppermint candies at local restaurants. Jack's hobbies were bowling leagues and boating in the San Joaquin Delta.
Jack is survived by his sister Evelyn Peterson, children: John Adrian, Cathy Osnaya (Porfi), Wendy Adrian (Lynne), Tom Adrian (Becky), Mary Hackbarth (Paul), twelve grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, and his beloved best friend, Toby. Jack and his family would like to thank the staff at Optimal Hospice and Valley Comfort for their thoughtful care and support.
Visitation will be on Thursday, December 4th at Lakewood Heritage Chapel, 900 Santa Fe Ave. in Hughson from 4-7pm, with the rosary beginning at 6pm. A funeral mass will be held on Friday, December 5th at 9:30 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 1813 Oakdale Rd. Modesto, followed by a graveside at Lakewood Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, please send your donations in Jack's name to Civitan International @ Civitan.org.
