Joginder Singh Pannu was born on April 9, 1925, in the Village Naushehra Pannuan, District Tarn Taran, Punjab, India. One of five children, he was the middle child among two elder sisters and two younger brothers. His life’s journey began on the farmlands of Punjab, where he developed his lifelong values of hard work and perseverance.
In 1947, he began his career with the Punjab Police. After more than a decade of service, he sought new opportunities abroad and moved to Hong Kong in 1960, where he worked as a bank security guard for over 25 years. While in Hong Kong, he became the cornerstone of his family—helping relatives immigrate from India, guiding them as they built new lives, and establishing a lasting legacy that continues to this day.
After the passing of his beloved wife in 1984, Joginder Singh devoted himself to his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. His love for family knew no bounds, and he found joy and purpose in watching the next generations grow. In the early 2000s, he retired and moved to the Bay Area, later settling in Modesto, to be closer to his eldest grandson.
Joginder Singh had a strong desire to learn. Fluent in both Punjabi and Cantonese, he took it upon himself to read and write Punjabi– a language he had never been formally taught. He also taught himself basic English, enough to navigate daily life. He remained active and curious all his life, taking great pride in his garden, enjoying bike rides, and greeting each day with gratitude. Despite his age, his spirit was ever-youthful.
Joginder Singh lived 100 remarkable years, a century defined by resilience, service, and love. He traveled the world, built a strong family foundation, and inspired all who had the privilege of knowing him. Though he will be deeply missed, we take comfort in knowing that he has found peace and is in a better place, watching over his family with pride. His presence was a blessing, his example a gift, and his spirit will continue to guide and inspire those who have loved him for generations to come. His memory will live forever in our hearts.
