

He was preceded in death by his wife of 42 years Barbara Fernandes; Parents William and Claria Fernandes; Son Dennis Block. His memory will be forever cherished by his children Eddie Blackwell (Corliss) of Hampton, Ga, Linda Block of Gardnerville, NV, Darlene Fernandes of Oakdale, Ca, John Fernandes Jr. (Tracy) of Angels Camp, Ca, Teresa Fernandes and Tina Fernandes both of Farmington, Ca, David Fernandes (Melissa) and Timothy Fernandes both of Modesto, Ca, Brother George Fernandes of Fallon, NV and Sister Joan Goken of Merced, Ca. 26 grandkids, 22 great grandkids and 3 great great grandkids.
John served as a Marine in World War II with his brothers.
John enjoyed operating heavy equipment and farm equipment which he passed down and taught his family all the way down to the great grandkids. When he was on a piece of equipment he always had a big smile on his face. He was a cowboy who loved to team rope and train his own horses. He also passed this down to his family. He liked to raise horses, cattle, dogs and exotic birds. He loved spending time with his family and teaching them how to cook….especially his famous enchiladas! He was a friend to all who met him and he loved to tell stories about his childhood, his siblings, his children, his days as a Marine and his rodeo days. He will be greatly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
John Fernandes was a member of Jehovah’s Witnesses. John was a beloved Dad, Papa, Grandpa, Great-Grandpa and Great Great Grandpa, which was what he cherished the most. A visitation for John will be held Thursday, March 10, 2022 from 11:00 am to 12:30 pm at Lakewood Funeral Home in Hughson. Following the visitation will be Memorial/Graveside service at 1:00 pm, officiated by Paul Hunt.
