

John Katen Henriques, age 83, passed away peacefully at his home on May 12, 2014 with his family at his side. John was born on August 14, 1930 at his home in Modesto, California to parents Joe and Mary Henriques. John attended Hart Elementary School and then went on to graduate from Modesto High School in 1948. John attended Modesto Junior College where he played football and running track. John and his little brother Albert were well known on 10th Street in Modesto in their early years. After college, John returned to the family farm, where he managed the family business for his mother until her passing in 1965. John was a lifetime Cattleman operating from Los Banos to Elk Grove until his passing. He was a hard working man and a hard playing successful bachelor. John was a member of Future Farmers of America, where he held a State Degree, and later became a 4H leader in Stanislaus County. John was a dedicated father who supported his children's activities.
John is preceded in death by his parents Joe and Mary, his sisters Frances Henriques, Grace Shaw and Marian Robinson, his brothers William, Joe, Alfred, Frank and Albert. John will be dearly missed by his children Mary Henriques of Modesto, and Joe (Kristi) Henriques of Modesto, his brother Phil Katen, his sisters Bellmedia Martin, retired Air Force Lt. Col. Clare Swanson, Emily Cardoza and Alice Highfill. John is also survived by his grandchildren John, Katie and Joey Henriques of Modesto.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Lakewood Funeral Home Riverside Chapel in Hughson on Tuesday, May 20, 2014 at 1:00PM. Committal will be private.
