Leo Ott, 87, of Oakdale, Ca. passed away peacefully on February 3, 2025. He was born in Modesto, Ca. to Emil and Agatha Ott. Leo was raised on a dairy farm and attended Shiloh Elementary School with his 7 other siblings. He then graduated from Modesto High School in 1955.
Leo worked at CVC/Kraft in Modesto totaling 38 years until he retired as a supervisor at the early age of 55 to work full time in his almond orchard. Through the years, while in his orchard every day, he was always accompanied by a faithful canine companion Sadie, Sheba, or Samantha. When he was working in his orchard one of the jobs he enjoyed the most was actively finding ways to eradicate the pests. He also liked listening to all kinds of music, but Swiss and accordion were his favorites. Leo was a member of the San Joaquin Valley Swiss Club in Ripon, as well as a recognized member of SASS (Single Action Shooting Society) with his alias being “Buckshot Ott.” One of his favorite things to do was to throw his annual 4th of July get-togethers that were famously loved and fondly remembered by all who were fortunate enough to attend.
Leo is survived by his devoted wife of 35 years, Diane, his son Doug (Sharon), daughter Cyndi, grandsons Andrew (Marissa) and Tony (Kellie), and granddaughter Lauren. He is also survived by his siblings Rosie Omlin, Walter Ott, and Ruth Ott-Strang, and by a large extended family on his wife’s side.
Leo was known to all as one of the hardest working men out there. He touched the lives of many and will be dearly missed by family and friends.
A funeral service will be held at 11 am on February 13, 2025, at Lakewood Memorial Park in the Heritage Chapel. Internment services are private.
