Marie (Sally) Smith, passed away at age 96, in her home in Waterford CA on December 17, 2021, following years of declining health. She was born February 3rd, 1925, in Russellville, Arkansas to Willie and Gracie Eaton and grew up there with her parents and siblings. Sally married John W. Smith in April 1943 and had their only son, John Michael, in 1945. Sally and family moved to California in the early 1950’s and made Waterford their home for the rest of their days.
Sally was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother and took great care of her family. Sally was a long-time member of the First Southern Baptist church in Waterford, California. She and John spent many joy-filled years serving the church in various capacities and building life-long friendships.
Sally was a grocery store checker at Valley Food Center in Waterford, and a friendly, familiar face there to the community for over 20 years. After retirement, Sally and John enjoyed driving across the country for vacations and visiting family in Oklahoma. They were avid collectors and enjoyed going to yard sales and flea markets, gardening, going out to lunch and many church events and outings with friends.
Sally was predeceased by John her devoted husband of 70 years, and her only child John Michael, as well as her parents and siblings. She is survived by her granddaughters, Sandy Colbert and Michelle Colefield both of Brentwood, CA and her grandson, Michael Smith of North Carolina. The family also wishes to thank Sally’s longtime caregiver and friend, Elizabeth Smith, for her devotion and care throughout the last 10 years. We truly couldn’t have done it without you!
Services will be held on Tuesday December 28, 2021 at Lakewood Funeral Home. The viewing is at 1pm followed immediately by the funeral service is at 2pm. A reception will follow on site.
