Mitchell Dane Cornelius

Mitchell Dane Cornelius passed away suddenly on July 7, 2023 at age 74. Mitchell was born in Stratton and raised in McCook, Nebraska. He is a 10-year veteran of the United States Army, serving in Vietnam from October 1969 to October 1970. Shortly after returning from Vietnam, he was stationed at Fort Ord in California where he met and married Bonnie McDonald in 1974. After the Army, Mitchell worked a variety of mechanic jobs, including a number of years at Campbell’s Soup before retiring from Gallo Winery after 15 years. In 2019, Mitchell moved to Las Vegas to be closer to his son and granddaughter. He loved gambling, traveling, camping, hunting, fishing, and chilled tequila. He is survived by his children: Charesse Craig and Justin Cornelius; his granddaughter: Lynette Cornelius; his 7 siblings: Pam Taylor, Cara Salerno, Clifva Budke, Charles Cornelius, James (Jimmy) Cornelius, Elizabeth (Liz) Cornelius, and Jenny Cornelius Miller; and his Fiancé, Diane Pryor. He was preceded in death by his wife, Bonnie Cornelius, and his parents, Lois and Arthur Luther. Visitation will be Friday, July21st from 9:00 to 11:00 am at Lakewood Funeral Home in the Heritage Chapel with a Graveside Service directly afterwards.
