William Eugene Wainwright Jr. passed away on April 25, 2024 at the age of 85. He was born on June 30, 1938 in Stockton, California to William Eugene (Bill) and Edith Wainwright and was the eldest of six siblings. Gene spent his formative years in Merced, California.
Gene enlisted in the Army from 1960-1962. During his service in San Antonio, Texas, he crossed paths with the love of his life, Dorothy Murrell. The two were united in marriage in 1964. Settling in San Jose, California, Gene earned his degree in Business and Dorothy in Nursing, eventually moving to Gilroy, where they welcomed their first two daughters, Heidi and Lisa.
In 1971, Gene and Dorothy made their home in Modesto, California, where Gene built a career in real estate appraisal and later became a general contractor. As Gene Wainwright Construction, he built numerous custom homes and subdivisions. After the birth of their last daughter Shelly, they made Hughson their permanent residence, where they lived until Gene’s passing.
Gene made a commitment early in life to serve the Lord, a choice he remained faithful to throughout his life. His faith brought a richness into Gene’s life and into his family’s as well . Gene and Dorothy had the privilege of having a Sunday morning meeting in their home for many years and many enjoyed the warmth and welcome of their open home.
Gene cherished spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is survived by his wife of 60 years Dorothy, daughters Heidi (Paul) Renteria of Casa Grande, AZ, Lisa (Ed) Denio of Hughson, CA and Shelly (Ty) Cox of Yuma, AZ as well as 11 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. Gene is also survived by his five siblings. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by family, friends and all whose lives he touched.
