Born on January 1, 1939, in Saint-Godefroi, Gaspé, to Georgianna and Laurent Poirier, Cliff grew up on a homestead as one of seven children, where he developed a strong work ethic that shaped his life.
He later worked in the Labrador mines before serving in the Royal Canadian Air Force as an electronics technician. Following his service, he began a long and healthy career with Nav Canada, where he became known and cherished as one of the “Three Musketeers.”
Cliff married Evelina Albertha Bakker in 1966, and together they raised two sons, René (deceased 2009) and Erik. Evelina passed in 2017, and in time Cliff found love again with Helene Coderre, reminding us all that life and joy can be renewed after grief.
He was predeceased by his brothers George and Leo, and his sister Adrienne, and is survived by his sisters Rita, Jeanne, and Fernande, whom he cared for deeply and shared close friendship with. Cliff’s friendships also spanned more than fifty years, most notably with his dear friends Jim and Mike.
Known for his discipline, wit, and kindness, Cliff was an avid runner and cyclist, a loyal friend, and a beloved member of his community, including his bridge club and wide circle of companions. His passing followed complications from a fall, but he faced his final days with courage and grace.
Cliff will be deeply missed by his son Erik, his beloved Helene, his surviving sisters, and the many friends and family who cherished his steady presence, humor, and generosity.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, October 7, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at Maison funéraire Racine, Robert & Gauthier Beauchamp Funeral Home, 271 boul. St-Joseph, Hull, Québec, J8Y 3Y1.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Cycling Canada to support youth cycling programs, or to the Adenoid Cystic Carcinoma Research Foundation (ACCRF) to advance cancer research.
