Dora T. Alvarado, age 88, of Houston, passed away at Herman Memorial Hospital surrounded by her loving family on Friday, April 27, 2018. She was born November 29, 1929 to the late Zaragosa and Lilly (Trevino) Alvarado in Kingsville, Texas. She was married twice and had children from both marriages.
She retired from a long career as an armed security guard. She was a devoted mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, great-grandmother, neighbor and friend. She worked her entire life to support her children and family. She approached every challenge with strength, courage and determination. In her youth, she was known for her passion of horseback riding, horse racing, hay rides, but most of all, music and dancing. She always looked forward to National Night Out to meet all the neighbors, so she could feed everyone. She loved to cook for everybody.
She was committed to her faith in Jesus Christ and was always considered a Prayer Warrior because she prayed for anyone who needed help. Her advice was always to love and help one another, forgive everyone, never complain, be content with what you have, and always Thank God for what he has provided for you. Dora was a person who was always providing spiritual strength and encouragement to anyone that needed it. Her family and friends will miss her natural ability to provide the guidance needed, regardless of the circumstances.
In her free time, Dora enjoyed gardening because she loved all flowers, cooking for the family, and the most important, spending time with the family.
She is preceded in rest by her youngest daughter, Dalia “Dolly” A. Munguia, her sibling’s; Leopold T. Alvarado, Emma (T. Alvarado) Garza, Raul T. Alvarado, Edward T. Alvarado, and Oscar T. Alvarado, granddaughter, Darlina Ann Valenzuela; grandson, David Daniel Cuellar; and granddaughter, Crystal Ann Cuellar.
She is survived by her children, Arturo Cuellar, Jr., Diana Cuellar, Albert Cuellar, Doris Munguia, and Debra Joyce Munguia-Diaz. Dora had 12 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren, 15 great-great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, and many close friends she considered family. She will be greatly missed by all.
Family is receiving friends on Thursday, May 3, 2018 at the funeral home from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Rosary will be recited at 7:00 pm. Funeral Service will be conducted at 10:00 am on Friday, May 4, 2018 at Calvary Hill Funeral Home and Cemetery, 21723 Aldine Westfield Road, Humble, Texas 77338.
