August 6, 1919 – December 15, 2015
Ellen Blanche Barber Nash was born August 6, 1919 in Breckenridge, TX, daughter of John and Vera Grounds Barber. Married Joseph Wiley Nash September 5, 1939. They had three children, JoEllen Nash Maxwell (Ernest), Jeanie Rogers (George), and Jimmy Nash (Vicki). They have many Grand and Great Grand children.
Ellen has always had a desire to worship and serve the Lord. When she was around 6 years old, she wanted to go to church, so her mother took her to a Methodist church. However, all they did was put the children in the basement to play. So they went to a Baptist Church. When Pentecost came to town in an open air meeting, they went and sat in the car. Ellen and her mother went forward and accepted Jesus as their Lord and Savior. Each night the Bible was read in their home. Ellen played the guitar and she and her mother would go around singing and declaring the love of the Lord. Her father worked in the oil fields in West Texas. Her mother came from East Texas.
Ellen graduated from high school at age 17 in 1938, then went to Bible College at Shield of Faith in Fort Worth Texas. She attended for 1 ½ years, then returned home due to illness of her mother. This is where she met Joe Nash who later became her husband.
Ellen and Joe Nash pastored several churches and evangelized ministering and winning souls to the Lord. Joe Nash also played the guitar, so Ellen laid down the guitar and stood by his side, a faithful wife, and partner for 70 years until his death in 2009. They influenced many lives and always encouraged young people to work for the Lord, allowing them to minister and sing or play a musical instrument in church.
Ellen, Mom, Grandma, is missed and will continue to be missed. No one can ever take her place. She would always tell you she was praying for you. She prayed all night, every night. She would wake you up, praying. She is in Heaven with Joe, the love of her life, celebrating Christmas and singing praises to the Lord, the ultimate Love of her life.
