Mom,
So many times you would call me and say "I just needed to hear your voice" and I told you to call me whenever you wanted. I miss you so much and it is so hard on all of us now that you are gone and we can't talk to you, see you, or just give you a hug. Your granddaughter wrote a poem about the loss of her grandmother, you. I wanted to make sure it made it to your memory book.

I never knew before this day, that silence could bring such pain,
that so high a price I'd gladly pay, to hear your voice again.
I never dreamed that your face could bring me joy and tears, 
that mountains I would gladly move, for just a few more years.
I did not know the comfort brought, just knowing you were there,
Until the time I longed for you and could not draw you near.
I did not know the emptiness, inside my heart could pound,
Until your words of comfort were nowhere to be found.
I mourn for words I'll never say, that you will never hear,
I ache for just a single hug, that now would be so dear.
It's like a fog I cannot shake, no matter where I run,
a dream I cannot wake from, a dark without the sun.
I hate my foe so strongly, it takes my breath,
my love one stolen from me, by the hands of death.
I'd lose all hope forever, knowing he cannot be stopped by me,
but suddenly I remember, the hill of Calvary.
There was a day, long ago, when Jesus bled and died, 
And Satan could not hold Him, no matter how he tried.
Three days later, when He rose again
He declared the Victory over death and sin.
With my foe defeated, I can know that it's true,
this grief will not last forever, for someday I'll reunite with you.

Your Granddaughter Loves you so much, we all do and miss you so much. We are all trying to deal with the grief we feel from the loss of you not here with us on earth, our hearts are breaking. We are trying to cope till we are called home to heaven and can see you again. I miss my mom and I love you so much.Tracy expressed in her poem exactly how I feel, and all your family.There has not been a day go by since you left us that I have not had tears in my eyes, pain in my heart, and wishing I could see you, hug, and talk to you.

Grandma Ruth, its still so hard to believe you're gone. I know growing up and being in school i didn't get to spend alot of time with you and grandpa like Ashton did. I had more memories of you as i got older and and you spent more and more time around mom and dads house. You had a love for all of us grandkids and great grandkids like nothing else. That was never a doubt. I say though the fondest memories is the morning talks we would have while you fixed your coffee. It never failed each morning i'd come down the stairs you'd be fixing your coffee and soon as i would turn on the light you would say i'm sorry, i hope i didn't wake you. I'd be like no grandma, i had to get up to go to work. Even though some times i'd be running a few minutes behind or late I'd stay to sit and talk with you before i left and started my day. The wisdom and advice you would share is time and things i will never forget. I thank you for that grandma and you will forever hold a special place in my heart and forever be missed. Untill the day i get to see you again, enjoy your time with Corlyn rocking her and spoiling her rotten for me. I love you grandma!

some of my earliest memories are of me at grandmas house staying up late watching movies that she recorded for me and anytime id get hungry in the middle of the night she'd fry up some eggs toast didn't matter what time it was. and during the summer shed always make sure that she had a watermelon to split in half and we'd eat it all day and when I was out I could catch her in the fridge putting some of her half in mine . and the birth phone calls or her just calling to say be safe that she always worried about me . And everytime leaving her house even as a adult shed stand on the porch till you rounded the corner and honked . grandma ruth was always worried about everyone .

I love you grandma tell grandpa duck butt said hi and see yall both when I get there .

Through the 30 plus years of knowing Ruth I have many fond and loving memories to cherish in the years ahead. She was a very loving and giving person and always had a kind word or compliment to say to you each time she saw you. We spend many holidays and special occasion together through the years and shared many laughs, stories and cried quite a few tears together. I will truly miss her but I know in my heart she is in a much happier place and is free of pain. I look forward to the day that we will all be together again with our loved ones that have gone before us.

To Linda and her family and Raymond Lee and his family cherish the time you had with her and the memories you made with her because in the years to come they will bring you comfort and peace.

Grandma Ruth, Words can not express how I feel knowing you're gone. The memories that we shared keep me going though. From you always asking if I was hungry even after I just ate to helping me build a fort out of cardboard boxes. These are things that I hope to do with my grandkids one day. I know I will see you again and if heaven has blue bell you will be waiting with a pint of dutch chocolate just like you always were. I'm not proud of all the things that I've done in my life, but I know you love me no matter what. Thank you Grandma, I love you.

Ruth was a dear friend who I will miss dearly. She and I grew to love one another over time and I believe that she and I both benefited from that friendship. I know that she is with Fannie Brown in heaven and I am glad they have each other. My hope is that the family will remember the happy things about this dear lady, and that she lives on through them. Grandma, I miss you so much it hurts. Life will never be the same without you.  You use to call me and say, "I just needed to hear your voice."  That is how I feel now.  I know you are in a better place and happy.  Remembering that, helps get through the pain.  Love you and God bless.

I lived with my Grandma for a while when I was younger.  My friend came to pick me up.  Grandma told us to be careful, and before we left added in  don't talk to strangers.  I was 19.  I laughed as I kissed her on the forehead and told her, Grandma, that's the point of going out; to talk to strangers.  You always knew she was concerned about you.  And you knew she was going to call you on your birthday and sing happy birthday.  and she wouldn't say hello first.  She'd just start singing as soon as you answered.  She always did things just to show she cared.  Like keeping your favorite soda at her house so you'd have it whenever you stopped by.  And she was guaranteed to have cookie dough, reeses, kit kats and milk chocolate ice cream in her freeze because even as adults we would always indulge our sweet tooth at grandma's house.  In the warmer months she'd always have a watermelon from Uncle Howard in the fridge because after all the soda & candy we at least could say we ate some fruit.  I remember a lot of nights staying up late watching Turner Classic Movies and talking.  I remember her telling me she met my Grandpa on a blind date.  Only, he wasn't her date, he was her friends date.  He was 5 years older than she was, so she had to take her little brother Lawson on dates with them as a chaperone.  She also told me that she was so nervous on her wedding day that her mother had to push her into the living room for her nuptials.  She got over the nerves pretty quickly and settled in to married life.  When she would run her mouth a little too much, he would tell her, Ruth, that's enough.  And she would always stop talking.  She knew she could be a handful, and I think she liked knowing Grandpa would never let her stray too far out of line.  They loved each other, flaws and all, for 41 years.  When Grandpa passed away in 1989, it was if a part of her passed away too.  She eventually adjusted to living alone, but she grieved his loss for the remainder of her life.  It saddened me when I'd see that familiar look in her eye, but it also encouraged me to know that they shared such love, devotion and loyalty. 

 I gave my Grandma Fannie's eulogy a week ago, and I spoke of her feisty spirit and all of the things she did in her life.  When I started thinking about Grandma Ruth I realized she didn't fill her life with jobs and projects.  She kept her home, took care of her husband and her children.  She worked part-time while they were in Junior High and High School and then started a career at Delta once they were out of school.  The things she did weren't all that extraordinary or unusual for a woman in her day.  What made Grandma extraordinary was her love and her loyalty.  I always knew she was there for me.  Day or night, I knew I could call, even if I woke her, and she'd have a willing ear, ready to listen to my troubles.  And I knew she'd be completely biased.  Whatever the situation was, Grandma was sure to always find me blameless, unless I was mad at someone else in the family and then she'd try to figure out a way where we could both be right.  And she'd always try to make peace.  She never liked dissention, especially amongst the family.  We'd be at her house and start arguing over something, and she was guaranteed to point out the window and say look at that dog across the street.  What is that dog doing?  Only there was no dog.  That was just her way of changing the subject.  She used words like beautiful, wonderful special and precious to describe the people she cared about.  She never left you wondering how she felt about you.  And almost every card from her would end with God bless you.  She was a worrier by nature, but she also had faith in Godit was a combination that lead to a lot of prayer.  She often spoke to me about her prayers for everyone in the family.  It was a legacy handed down by her mother that she carried out daily.  She was also notorious for apologizing for things that weren't her fault.  You had a bad day, got a flat tire, she'd tell you she was sorry.  And I know she would feel bad that we are grieving over her today.  I think she'd like me to offer a little hope, so I'll leave you with this.  A couple years ago she had a near death experience.  She said her arthritic hands no longer hurt and she was with God and she could see Grandpa.  The glow of joy on her face as she spoke about it, is something I'll never forget.  I have no doubt that a moment after she drew her final breath that she stood  without pain and without the walker she hated using in the presence of her savior, reunited with the love of her life and all her family, and she smiled, no longer through grief, but through inexplicable joy.  And that's exactly how she'll be when we're called up to meet her someday.  We love you and we'll miss you Grandma.

Dear Aunt Ruth, 
You are the first person I remember calling me "Linda Ann", though that is my name.I was in the fifth grade at the time in 1958 in Houston, TX. I don't even remember my mom calling me "Linda Ann". We've grown closer in later years. I will miss our conversations very much. In my mind and heart I will always hear your sweet voice and caring concern you showed. Aunt Ruth, you have always been dear to me. I always loved spending time at your house and you always made everyone feel welcome. I am going to miss you dearly.

You were the greatest mom I could have ever had. You were a great mother, grandmother and great grandmother. I am thankful for the love and memories you gave me.I know you are truly happy now because you are with the Lord, daddy, and family you missed. I will miss hearing your voice and taking you out to eat. I am truly blessed to have had you as my mother. I love you very much and will truly miss you till I see you again.My heart is breaking.

You were the greatest mother I could have ever had. Thank you for all the love and memories you gave me. I will miss you and hearing your voice, but I know in my heart you are happy and where you wanted to be, with the Lord, daddy,  and all the family you missed. You were the greatest mom, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt,and friend to all of your family. You will be missed so much till we see you again.
