Terry Joe Dolezal was born on January 19, 1958, in Houston, Texas. This world was lucky enough to know this incredible human being for 67 years. He went home to be with the Lord on April 28, 2025. He was surrounded by his family until the moment he took his last breath. As a child, Terry enjoyed playing Little League baseball and football with all the neighborhood kids. This is when his love for sports began. He also loved being an altar boy at Saint Jerome's Catholic Church. Terry worked at Burger King for a short time and then went on to become his sister ‘s right hand man at Roni’s Pool Service for over 40 years. He loved cleaning swimming pools, and he loved seeing all of his customers. He was a man a few words, but his loyal presence and huge smile was enough for everyone to know what a kind soul he was.
Terry loved to fish. He also loved being outside mowing the acres of land with the riding lawnmower, or even better, the big tractor. Anyone who knew Terry knew his love for the Astros, and the Texans, and the Longhorns. He was a loyal and dedicated fan to all of them for as long as we can remember, but it was the Astros that had a special place in his heart. He knew every player, every game and every score each of those teams had. If you ever wanted to know something about sport statistics, all you had to do was call Terry.
In between watching sports, he also loved comedies. His favorites were the Golden Girls, Tyler Perry, Madea, and the Three Stooges. His laugh was infectious, and he always enjoyed the silliness of these shows.
Something you may not know about Terry, is that he made the BEST sandwiches. I’m not sure what made them taste so good. Maybe it was the love and the effort that he put into them, or maybe it was knowing that he was going to have a big smile on his face once you told him how delicious the sandwich was.
He loved to please people and never hesitated to do anything you asked of him.
To know Terry Joe was to love Terry Joe. He was kind, loving and very special to all that knew him. He made a huge impact on the people who took care of him towards the end.
He was truly an angel here on earth that taught us what love, kindness, and acceptance is supposed to look like. He was a humble servant of the Lord, and it was an honor to get to know him. He was a member of the KJZT and Knights of Columbus.
He is survived by his Sister Veronica Meadows and Brother-In-Law Charles Mangum, Niece’s Jennifer Allen, Melanie Knapke, and Amy Van Handel. Nephews Charles Wiley, and Tony Mangum, plus numerous Great Nieces and Nephews.
He is preceded in death by his Father Buzzy Dolezal, Mother Nora Dolezal, Brother Junior Dolezal, and Sister Tootsie Mangum.
Graveside service will be held at Woodlawn Cemetery, 1101 Antoine Dr., Houston, TX 77055 on May 8, 2025, at 11 AM. In honor of Terry we ask that everyone that will be joining us to please dress comfortably and wear your favorite Astros Shirt.
