Valerie Jo Bohl passed away suddenly on March 29, 2022 in her home located in The Woodlands, Tx. She was born on December 8, 1952, adopted by Doctor Henry Phifer (1919-1979) and Joan Hines Sigmier (1920- 2020) out of Hinton, Oklahoma. Beloved sister to Russel Phifer (1954-2013) and Janet Tomasheski. She is survived by loving daughters Kelle Jo Bohl, Cassandra Elise (Bohl) Alfaro and stepson Curtis Bohl. “Big grands” Andres, Krystal and Sophia along with Anthony and Mia Elise Alfaro of whom so lovingly referred to her as GiGi.
Not letting the small town she grew up in stop her, Valerie studied lived abroad in Holland during her High School years. Discovering a love for travel, she also visited Egypt, Russia, Greece, London and Jamica just to name a few. Having been adopted she always said how everything changed for her when she had her children. Her family was her sole focus, and she worried over and took care of them until the end, sometimes to the exclusion of her own needs. Valerie was a free spirit who loved Jesus' Gospel and how it made her feel so joyful and worthy. Through life’s ups and downs she leaned upon her faith of unconditional love and forgiveness. She valued loyalty, honesty, and authenticity. She believed that everyone needs a harmless outlet for stress. Encouraging peace through prayers and good margaritas. She loved music; all of it; everything from Gospel to Cindy Lauper to Toni Braxton or Bonnie Raitt. She danced freely, shared her Mother’s love and talent for playing the piano, and was adamant that her kids learn to appreciate music as well.
Never meeting a stranger Valerie had an amazing sense of humor and an infectious personality! Her wit was razor sharp and she was known to occasionally say or do shocking things, but you’d know it would always end with a good laugh and a hug or two. She was intense, intelligent, generous and compassionate. Even when she spoke in anger, she was often the first to apologize and to try to heal what was broken- again with a hug or two. She struggled with the concept of tough love and was fiercely passionate and vocal. Despite all of our differences and dysfunctions she genuinely loved people and her entire family. She worried about them, rooted for them, protected them, resented them, forgave them, but most importantly always kept on loving them.
When Valerie’s grandson Anthony came along, it began a whole new chapter for her. Being a ‘GiGi’ was her best role yet. He was her whole world, sidekick, and her best friend. Always accepting or even demanding time with her grandchildren. She helped to keep Granpa’s (former husband, Jeff Bohl) legacy and love for airplanes alive. After becoming a full-time caretaker for her Mother until her passing at the age of 99, she began devoting her free time to serving at The Woodlands Church. Becoming the ultimate “connector” of people, near or far, through hosting online ministry and her work on the production team. With a gracious and full heart it was there that she blossomed into her best and most content self. She loved loving on her church friends/ family.
Valerie will be desperately missed by all those that she’s left behind. Our hearts are so broken by this unexpected loss. She was one of a kind and to be loved by her was to be truly blessed.
In lieu of flowers, Valerie's family would like potted plants in memory of her life.
