Cleo, as she was known, was a longtime resident of North Wales, PA and was born in Philadelphia on April 14, 1939. Her parents were Doris White Deiss and William Deiss. She graduated from high school in Northeast Philadelphia and continued her education graduating from Montgomery County Community College with an associate degree in Accounting. Before college Cleo was in the Rainbow Club, which led friends to introduce her to Mr. Hartman. They went on to marry in 1960 and started a family. After her children Karen Jennifer and Joseph III were in school, she established a career as a bookkeeper working successfully for several local companies, including years later her son Joseph’s business.
Cleo loved her dogs, all animals, camping, sewing, flowers, walking and attending church. She served as a troop leader for her daughter Karen’s Brownie and Girl Scout Troops. She and Mr. Hartman were very active at Gwynedd Presbyterian Church, St. Peter’s Lutheran in North Wales, and most recently at Peace in Zion UCC in Zieglerville. When she and Mr. Hartman retired they joined a wonderful RV Club, and traveled all over the east coast of America. Their beloved dogs Toby and Sarg traveled along.
Cleo was preceded in death by her wonderful husband Joseph Edward Hartman, Jr. who went to heaven in 2012. Cleo is survived by her daughter Karen Jennifer Robinson, and her son Joseph Edward III, his wife Pam, and a handsome tabby cat named Tom. Tom is being adopted by Joseph Edward III and Pam.
