Elizabeth, or “Ely” as she was fondly called by her family, was born on August 5th, 1964, in Camden, NJ and lived most of her life in the Philadelphia area.
Ely has always embodied a fiery spirit, a compassionate heart and a zest for life that was contagious to all those around her. Ely’s love of life was evident in her positive, cheerful and bubbly personality. Ely had that unique gift of touching the hearts of everyone she met with her gentle soul. The love she shared with her friends, her co-workers, her family and her community, will never be forgotten.
Ely had a gift for being very creative with a vivid imagination and the ability to make something from nothing based on her mind’s vision. Ely’s creativity was demonstrated in the jewelry she created and the cakes she decorated. Not only did Ely love to make beautiful jewelry, but she was also passionate about crafting, drawing, painting, decorating and just creating beautiful things. She loved bringing things to life with colors, flowers, plants and gardening being a big part of her life.
As a manager at Oteri’s Bakery for over a decade, Ely applied her people skills and her creative ways to make people happy with beautiful cakes that were basically works of art.
Ely leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, creativity and resilience, carried forward by her children; Julbeth Madera, Julio Madera, Evelyn Madera, Julissa Escobar; her grandchildren Alexandra Madera, Bianca Madera, Chase Evans, Dakotah Evans, Laila Madera, Lisandra Santiago, Avalynne Hernandez, Aubreilyn Irvine, and Ruby Madera. She also leaves behind her loving mother Petra Lopez, sister Evelyn LaRocco, brother-in-law John LaRocco, nephews Joseph Mammana, Leo Lopez, Angel Mercado and nieces Kriss Lopez and Jaritza Mulero. She was predeceased by her father Leopoldo Lopez, brother Leopoldo Lopez Jr. (aka Pito) and brother Leo Lopez.
We encourage friends and family to share their memories of Ely and upload photos to the memorial page, celebrating a life truly well-lived. The outpouring of love and support is a testament to the remarkable woman Ely was, and her spirit continues to live on in the hearts of those she touched.
