Louis Franklin Foster, 94, of Feasterville, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully with friends on Monday, March 2, 2026. For several years, Lou faced cancer with courage, grace, and dignity—never allowing the illness to define him or dim the love and light he shared with others. To those who knew him, he was a man of faith with a kind and generous smile.
Born August 20, 1931, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Louis was the son of the late Albert Franklin Foster and Anna (Beihl) Foster. He grew up in Philadelphia with his sister Anna. He will join his wife of 56 years, Joan, in heaven. Lou had 3 sons, John, Allen and Louis Jr. He is also lovingly remembered by his son’s wives, Pamela, Karen, and Nancy. Lou was also proud of his grandsons, Jason and Bryant, Jeffery and Jordon, and Patrick and Jackson as well as his great grandsons, Simon and PJ. He was predeceased by his sister, Anna (Hood) and by his daughter, Lillian.
After graduation and an interesting series of jobs that included making chocolate and building helicopters, Lou took a job with Philadelphia Electric (PE), well before it was a publicly traded stock. He stayed with that company working through a variety of positions monitoring power generation, including some of the first nuclear reactors in Pennsylvania. Lou completed his career as an executive working at PE’s new headquarters building on Market Street in Philadelphia.
Beyond his work, Lou embraced life through running and art. His father taught him to be an oil painter, but he worked in other media as well. Numerous landscapes and a few seascapes adorned the walls of every place he called home. He took up running in the late seventies and ran countless half-marathons and marathons in the eighties and into the nineties. He qualified and competed as an age group athlete in the Boston Marathon several times. In his youth, he played basketball and football and shared his love of sports with his sons. Like any good Philadelphian, Lou cheered for the Phillies and the Eagles. Lou will be remembered as someone who understood the value of physical fitness, fair play, friendship, and humor. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. His presence will be deeply missed, but his spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
A celebration of Lou’s life will be held at The Community Reformed Church of Feasterville, located at 15 W. Street Road, at 10:00 AM on Saturday, March 14, 2026.
