Gosh Is it already a year? I remember Simin when I was a child (10 Years old) . Her family were my childhood neighbours. She was a young university student at the time  and her mother (RIP) Khanoom Akhrar ol Saltaneh, who always wore a black net over her hair used to give us kids nice sweets. Gosh memories flood in .The good old days . R.I.P Simin. During summer we used to play in the street when Simin will arrive to their big house at about 2 PM from the university driving through the gates right into the big yard and park it behind the Land Rover that I don't know who it belonged to. She looked so classy with short curly hair being behind the white wheel of the Mercedes I think it was either a 190 S or a 220 S . Memory is hazy. R.I.P

I must have been 2 years old I vividly remember going to Simin's house. Her mother Akhtar ol Saltaneh used to be a very kind lady. I was allowed to go into their Land Rover parked in the yard  as long as I did not touch the transmission but was allowed to touch the small differential gears. I also remember having seen a wrestling champion (Takhti) in their house. I remember a very good looking lady who was slim short hair and my dad used to say "She is Simin Khanoom" in the university and she is very clever lady. She used to drive a gray Mercedes Benz. The house was on the corner of Pahlavi Avenue and the street was initially Zarrin Kafsh, which later changed to Zarrin. Across the road was a divorced gentleman who had divorced the German wife but they had this most gorgeous daughter named Aria Zarrin Kafsh. Blond hair and blue eyes and was my first love but she never knew about that. Further down the same road was Mr. Afshartous's house whose daughter Victoria Afshartous was  lady's ski champion in Iran.  I remember one time she fell and broke he leg or ankle. My memories are hazy but I was very saddened to hear of Simin's passing. My condolences.

Farshad, thoughts and prayers are with you and your family at this difficult time. We are hoping you can find peace in the happy memories you shared. Your mother was a very strong lady.

The bright star that went out
At dawn on Tuesday, February 15th, 2022 the light of the life of Lady Simin Mousavi Hejazi turned off. 
Simin, the 5th child of Mohamad Baqer Hejazi, a prominent lawyer and Lady Asieh Afshartous, was born in Tehran in 1933. Her educated mother was one of the few women with a high school diploma at a time when most Iranian women were denied the right to education, and as the director of a girls' high school in Tehran, she tried to share her knowledge, wisdom and experiences to nurture independent, educated and confident women.
 
Simin Hejazi was the first Iranian female  to graduate in the field of  Electromechanical Engineering from the Faculty of Engineering, University of Tehran in 1956, when only limited duties and responsibilities were considered for Iranian women scientifically and socially. A review of Simin's educational, professional, social and political background shows her countless efforts, perseverance and abilities. By being employed in the Tehran Regional Waterboard, she took on important responsibilities such as deputy and then director of the technical office of the organization and for many years supervised the engineering executive programs of this prestigious organization.
 
Simin Hejazi, was commited to the advancement of her country by following the nationalist values of her family, especially General Mahmoud Afshartous, her uncle who was tragically killed before the 1953 coup. For years she supported Mossadegh to create an open, free society and fought against gender discrimination.
 
After the revolution, despite her brilliant career, Simin left for the United States with the priority of continuing the education of her children.  
 
Today in our country,  where many capable females shine in  various higher education fields and more than 1000 of young females graduate in engineering every year, we must remember the efforts of prominent figures like Simin Hejazi who bravely paved the way for them. May she R.I.P

Dear Farshad and Farhad.
I haven't been lucky enough to spend some quality time with  your dear mom, Simin Hejazis, but I can crystal clear remember her, as a very strong and charismatic person, who visited our dad couple of times a year, specially in the Norooz, Iranian new year.
I have been working as a teacher in Denmark for more than twenty years.
At the very beginning of my career as a teacher, I had a Persian workshop, where I thought so many things about Persian culture.
One of man points of the workshop was of course, my family, as a traditional iranian family, where I among many details, introduced Simin Hejazis, as the first woman who became Electro-Mechanical Engineer in iran, which  every body, both teaches and young pupils at 8th and 9th grade, were amazed by the fact, and i was proud, and believe it or not stil proudly mention her, when I meet this very new generations of emigrants from Iran, who came, and stil coming to Denmark.
For me she is alive as long as we mention her, and as long as her legacy, and her effort to make a better life for others go on, and she is a role model and inspiration for many youngsters to become successful individuals.

I have such sweet memories of you and can’t quite believe you’re gone. I pray you are at peace.  I remember the first time we met.  You always admired me who I am as a woman, enjoyed listening to your stories and advices like a mother shared moments with her daughter.  
I miss you and  cherish you always❤️

I went to high school with her son Dr. Farhad in Iran and later came to US at the same time and attended college with Dr. Farhad in the same university and the city. During those years we lived close to her and shared many good times. She was kind, smart, loving and generous lady who treated me same as her sons, and world has lost a wonderful women of great accomplishments born into a country and times that made it very hard for women to get educated, be independent and prosper. You will be dearly missed Mrs. Hejazi.
