Charles L. "Ted" Brady

Charles L. “Ted” Brady, 99 of Warren and formerly of Huntington passed away on Monday, March 29, 2021 at Heritage Pointe of Warren. Charles was a 1939 graduate of Conception Junction High School in Missouri. He was a graduate of Northwest Missouri State University with a BS degree in business and mathematics. Charles received his MS degree from the University of Northern Colorado in Greely, in business and school administration. He took additional college studies from Central Missouri State University in Warrensburg, Fort Hays State University in Fort Hays, KS; Ball State University in Muncie; University of Kansas in Lawrence, Kansas. He was chairman of the Western District of the Smaller High School Association in Kansas; he was a life member of the National Education Association; the Huntington County Teachers Association and a member of various business associations. He served as treasurer of the Kansas Neosho District of the United Brethren in Christ Church for ten years, chairman of the Central Conference Finance Committee of the Church of the United Brethren in Christ; member of the Church of the United Brethren in Christ publications; board and delegate to Central Conference Church of the United Brethren in Christ. He was a member of the Huntington Exchange Club and president of the Evening Exchange Club, a member of the Huntington County Gideon’s International Organization. Charles was a member of College Park United Brethren Church where he served on various committees and was Sunday School Superintendent. He helped start the College Park Youth Commission and worked with youth for more than twenty years. He served his country in WWII. His service was in the Pacific Theater of Operations. Three years were spent overseas in Hawaii, Okinawa and Korea. Sergeant Brady was honorably discharged in 1946. He taught high school for six years and spent seven years as superintendent of school in Kansas. In 1959 he came to Huntington College where he taught in the Department of Business and Economics. He was chairman of the division of history and social science for many years. He directed summer school and continuing education. He also served on various committees throughout his tenure of twenty-seven years at Huntington College, he retired after forty years in education. After his retirement, in 1986, he served as interim camp director for Camp Co-Tubic in Belfountaine, OH and Camp Living Waters in Luthers, MI. He was a member of American Legion Post 85 of Huntington and the Huntington University Historical Society. Charles was born on February 24, 1922 in Gilford, Missouri, the son of the late Leo C. and Estella (Strop) Brady. He was united in marriage to Doris Lewis on May 20, 1947 in Esbon, Kansas. Doris preceded him in death on November 20, 2019. Survivors include a son: Roger (Cindy) Brady of Syracuse, IN; a daughter: Charlene (Bill) Blue of Oak Harbor, OH; six grandchildren: Rachel (Randy) Kilbourne of Fort Wayne, Jared (Christina) Blue of Manhattan Beach, CA, Erin Sisty of Livonia, MI, Amber (Andrew) Rensberger of Huntington, Nathan Brady and Chloe Ciriello both of Syracuse, IN; five great grandchildren: Emmerson Kilbourne, Aidan Sisty, Maren Kilbourne, Jordan Blue and Uriah Rensberger. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife. Visitation will be held on Saturday, April 3, 2021 from 1:00 pm – 4:00 pm at the Myers Funeral Home Huntington Chapel, 2901 Guilford Street, Huntington, Indiana. A memorial service will be held on Friday, April 16, 2021 at 1:00 pm at the College Park United Brethren Church, 1945 College Ave., Huntington, Indiana. We will be following the CDC’s and Indiana’s guidelines for masks, social distancing and social gathering limits. Private family interment will be at the Clear Creek Cemetery in Huntington County.
