Charles (Charlie) Raymond Hiner, 88 of Warren, passed from this life into glory on January 4, 2026, after an extended illness. Charlie was born on October 12, 1937, in Huntington, to Ira Verne and Mary (Hoover) Hiner. He attended Lancaster Township High School, class of 1955. He was a member of the United States Navy from 1955 to 1961 and a member of Amity Lodge #483 of Huntington, the Scottish Rite, and the Shriners. Charlie was a man of faith who attended several different churches during his lifetime, including Northview Church of Christ, Markle Church of Christ, and Cedar Creek Church of Christ in Leo. In his final years, he attended The Chapel in Fort Wayne.
Charlie married the love of his life, Shirley Guthier Allred, on July 31, 1976. They resided in Huntington, Angola, Crown Point, and Fort Wayne, before settling in Warren in 2023. Charlie retired in 2000 after forty three years of truck driving mostly with Essex Wire and Consolidated Freight, he continued to occasionally transport motor homes across the country during retirement. Charlie was well respected for his strong work ethic and well liked for his charming sense of humor. Charlie had a playful nickname for everyone and he enjoyed various hobbies. He was a skilled woodworker, a gifted landscaper, and a versatile handyman. Through a few of his building projects, he developed strong lasting friendships with several Amish families. Above all, he was a godly man, a faithful husband to Shirley for forty nine years, and a selfless and caring father.
Charlie is survived by his wife Shirley Hiner of Warren, a daughter: Lucretia Hiner of Fort Wayne; two stepdaughters: Barbara Stoffel and Carolyn (Russell) Walberry of Huntington; four stepsons: Steve (Arlene) Allred and Tom (Cindy) Allred both of Huntington, Greg (Nikki) Allred of Fort Wayne, and Brian (Stacey) Allred of Yorktown. He is also survived by twenty grandchildren and twenty eight great grandchildren, along with numerous nephews and nieces.
Charlie was preceded in death by his parents, Verne and Mary Hiner, three sisters: Dorothy Andrew, Marjorie Tubbs and Crystal Essex; two brothers: Homer Hiner and Earl Hiner; two sons: Perry Hiner and Kevin Hiner, and two stepsons: Phillip Allred and Douglas Allred.
There will be no public services at this time.
