Obituary of Harold E. Harter

Harold E. Harter, 92 of Huntington passed away at 1:00 am on Friday, February 22, 2019 at Tipton Place in Huntington. Harold was a graduate of Butler High School and was a graduate of Valparaiso Technical College. He served his country in the U.S. Army from 1944 – 1946 and was part of the U.S. force first arriving in Japan following its surrender. Harold worked at General Electric as an engineering design specialist until his retirement. He was a life member of Central Christian Church where he was active as an Elder and Elder Emeritus, Christian Men’s Fellowship and Central Christian Church Foundation, he was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Huntington and the York Rite, VFW Post 2689 and the GE Quarter Century Club. Harold was born on April 10, 1926 in Butler, Indiana, the son of William J. and Emmarose (Sapp) Harter. He lived in Newville, Indiana during his childhood. He was united in marriage to Geraldine S. Shull on July 1, 1951 at the Coburn Corners Church of Christ in Dekalb County. She preceded him in death on May 17, 1999. Survivors include a son: Scott (Lisa) Harter of Huntington; two grandsons: Mark (Jenny) Harter, Matthew (Kristin) Harter, a granddaughter: Sarah and her husband Rob, two great grandchildren; and a daughter-in-law: Nancy Larson. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son: Gary R. Harter and two brothers: William G. Harter and Clarence D. Harter and his good friend and companion LaVona Petrie. Visitation will be held on Monday, February 25, 2019 from 4:00 pm – 7:00 pm at the Myers Funeral Home Huntington Chapel, 2901 Guilford Street, Huntington, Indiana. Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, February 26, 2019 at 10:30 am with one hour of visitation prior to the service at Central Christian Church, 500 MacGahan Street, Huntington with Dr. Sam Young and Pastor Chris Hayden officiating. Interment will be at the Gardens of Memory Cemetery. Memorial donations can be made out to Central Christian Church in care of Myers Funeral Home, 2901 Guilford Street, Huntington, IN 46750.
