Myers Funeral Home

Nancy Lurline (Blackwood) Chubb, 84 of Huntington passed away peacefully on Monday, November 16, 2020 at Heritage Pointe of Huntington. She received her bachelor’s degree from Ohio University in Athens, where she would go on to serve as a public school music teacher for more than forty years. Nancy would later move to western New York, where she continued to teach before retiring in south Florida. Though small in stature, Nancy had a dynamic and infectious personality. Many former students remember her as a skilled, passionate, and caring teacher. One former pupil recalls Nancy as a “Tiny mighty mo seated at the giant piano, playing for all she was worth!” Another remembers, “She loved music and her love for music made us all love music too! The class was joyful and fun because that’s how SHE was!” Nancy was born on May 30, 1936 in Tuppers Plains, Ohio, the daughter of the late Homer and Mildred (Steward) Blackwood. She was united in marriage to fellow educator Robert Lee Burson on August 30, 1958 in Athens, Ohio. Robert preceded her in death. She was married to her second husband, Richard Chubb on December 29, 1990 in Chautauqua, New York. During their retirement years, Nancy and Richard were fond of sailing. Richard preceded her in death. Survivors include two sons: Mark Burson of Columbus, OH and Scott Burson of Roanoke, IN; sister: Lelia Sublett of Wimberley, TX; three stepsons: Robert Chubb of Atlanta, GA, John Chubb of Akron, NY, Rick Chubb of Linthicum Heights, MD and numerous grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother: James Blackwood. In light of the current pandemic, a memorial service will be held at a later date.
