On February 20, 2021, Charles Jerome “Jerry” Franchot of Centerville, MA, loving husband and devoted father and grandfather, passed away peacefully at the age of 78 after a courageous battle with a long illness.
Jerry was the beloved husband of Mary Jane (Davis) Franchot for 35 years. He was the devoted father of his two daughters, Sarah (Tully) Higgins and her husband, Peter, and Susie (Tully) Short and her husband, Brian. Jerry was also the proud grandfather of Claire, Lucas, Sylvia and Adrian. He adored them all.
After attending Buckingham, Browne & Nichols School in Cambridge, MA, and Peacham Academy in Peacham, VT, Jerry served in the United States Air Force for four years. After returning from military service, Jerry graduated from Boston University. He spent his over 25-year career as a computer systems engineer at Stone & Webster in Boston, MA. His job enabled him to travel the world and his family loved to hear about his amazing experiences after he returned from each trip.
A native of Cambridge, MA, and a staple at the Bull & Finch Pub in Boston, Jerry loved city life. A tap on the shoulder from Jane while he was perched on his favorite bar stool one evening in 1982 changed his fate and found him living out the rest of his days as a family man in the suburbs.
Jerry’s maternal family owned a beautiful old farmhouse on Cape Cod. Every summer while the girls were growing up, he braved bridge traffic to introduce his family to Cape life. Years later, Jane and Jerry settled on the Cape. He instilled in his girls a love of the Cape that will be passed on to future generations.
Jerry was a hereditary member of the New York State Society of the Cincinnati. In his younger years, he was an avid racquetball player and won many tournaments at the Boston Athletic Club. Jerry also enjoyed golf, family ski trips, micromanaging his daughters’ yard work, and spending hours at the beach without sunblock.
