27 January, 1929 – 19 November, 2020
Centerville- Claire Anderson, 91, passed peacefully on Thursday, November 19, 2020 at Cape Cod Hospital, with her loving husband and daughter at her side. She was the beloved wife of LeRoy Anderson, with whom she would have celebrated 70 years of marriage in April.
Born in Providence, RI on January 27, 1929, she was the daughter of the late Arthur O. and Mabel (Westberg) Christiansen.
Claire met her future husband at Mount Pleasant Baptist Church , Providence, RI, where she sang in the choir and LeRoy was organist. LeRoy was jokingly warned by the choir director to watch out for the sopranos in the first row. LeRoy responded- That’s ok, Claire is an alto in the second row. It was a match made in heaven and they married on April 21, 1951. Family and friend gatherings , music , and birdwatching were an integral part of her life. She sang in many different church choirs and musical groups, including the Chatham Chorale and St. Mary’s Episcopal Church choir. She also enjoyed traveling throughout Europe with her husband.
In addition to her husband, she is survived and will be deeply missed by her children, Peter H. Anderson (Annette) of Cedar Crest, NM; and Karen E. Anderson of Pocasset, MA; and her grandchildren, Kyle(Jenny), Nicolas, and Forest Anderson, and Molly (Mike) and Meghan (Chris) McNamara; as well as two sisters, Ruth Maynard (Bill) of Bomoseen, VT; and Joan Christiansen (John) of San Diego, CA.
Claire was predeceased by her son, Eric A. Anderson.
A private burial service for immediate family will be held on Sunday, December 6th at noon at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church, with interment in the Memorial Garden after the service. For those who wish to view the service, please go to the St. Mary’s Church website.
A memorial service will take place at a future date when large groups are again able to safely gather.

When i think of my sister Claire, i think of music, birds, fluffy kitties, Swedish pancakes, her delicious coffee bread, laughing, Cape Cod, snow, walks in the woods, stability, dependability, love of beauty and family, quiet dignity, strength, endurance. Even though i grew taller than she, Claire was always my “big sister”, someone i aspired to emulate. In spite of our eleven year age difference, we shared many interests, always cherished our fond memories of family times together, including a few trips. We frequently reminded ourselves of how blessed we were. I feel especially blessed to have known Claire for all of my eighty years. Rest in peace and love, dear sister.
