

James Leroy Rollins, Sr. also known as “Jimmy” “Dad”, “Daddy” “Papa” and “Just Jim ”, was born on November 27th,, 1929 in Boston, Massachusetts to the late Roger and Marjorie Rollins. James was the youngest of three sons. He attended Boston Grammer School as well as Roxbury Memorial High School.
In 1949 he met and married his bride Ella Tabb of Lunenberg, Massachusetts and from that union, five children Kathleen, Darice, James Jr., Wayne and Lisa were born.
In 1951, he was drafted into the United States Army and provided Artillery service during the Korean War until his honorable discharge in 1953. He was a recipient of 3 Bronze Stars and several other awards of honorable mention during his deployment in Korea.
In later years he also became a member of the Celestial Mason Lodge of Boston, Massachusetts.
James was a caring and loving man, strong but gentle and would extend himself to all. He left a positive impression on everyone. He loved to travel and would take his family on many excursions such as the World's Fair, boat cruises and wonderful summer vacations on Cape Cod.
His personal interests included music, playing the trumpet, listening to jazz and was often the last to leave the dance floor. He was an extraordinary carpenter, auto mechanic and inventor. He created the UPS Driver Training Truck which is still used today by United Parcel Service to train new drivers. He also spent many weekends detailing cars, a trade he later passed on to his sons James Jr. and Wayne.
James retired on Cape Cod, after 29 years of service with the United Parcel Service. There he enjoyed spending quality time with family and life long friends known as the “Cape Cod crew”. He praised God daily and served faithfully on the Deacon Board at Zion Union Church as well as serving on the Usher Board and singing with the Men's Chorus.
He leaves to mourn, his devoted wife of over 64 years, Ella Catherine Rollins. His children Kathleen (Rollins) Hicks (Geoffrey Hicks); Darice Rollins (Joseph Jones); James Rollins, Jr; Wayne Rollins and wife, Fadia; Lisa (Rollins) Dillon (Jason Dillon). His brothers, William Rollins Sr. and wife Marilyn (deceased); Roger Rollins Sr. (deceased) and wife, Gloria. Nephews:William Rollins, Jr.; and daughter, Sharmini Rollins; Bruce Rollins; Daniel Rollins (Leah Rollins) Great nephews: Sheldon; Noah; Erik; and Tyler Rollins; Great Nieces: Sophia and Taylor Rollins. His legacy also includes ten grandchildren, Brandon Dawkins (Lakisha Dawkins), Marlon Dawkins, Raena Mayfield (Albert Mayfield Jr.);Wayne Rollins, Jr., Jonathan Rollins, Rashida Plummer;
James Rollins III (Jennifer Rollins), Andres Rollins, Patrice Rollins, Amber Dillon and Ciara Dillon. He has eight great-grandchildren; Jaeden, Jniah, Renee, Kamiya, Donovan, Amari, Jinez and Jamie.

James was truly a humble man, devoted to serving God and family and leaves us with the knowledge that as he approached the throne of God he heard Him say: “Well done! My good and faithful servant. Welcome home!”
Visitation will take place Wednesday, October 19th from 5-8pm at Zion Union Church, 805 Attucks Lane, Hyannis, MA. Funeral Services will be celebrated in church 10am Thursday followed by a committal service with military honors at Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne, MA.
