Janet Ellinwood McFarland "Jan"

Jan was once married to the late Richard W. McFarland and was the daughter of the late Barbara Jesse Sparks and the David Ellinwood, Sr.

Jan was born here on Cape Cod and graduated from Dover Sherborn High school in 1974. Later, Jan received her nursing degree from Cape Cod Community College in 1990.

Jan cared for her patients for over 30 years, officially retiring in 2022. Jan spent her life in various places, such as short stays in California and Las Vegas. She also lived in North Carolina for many years, but Cape Cod was always her home, where she finally returned in 2025 to be near her family that she loved so dearly.

Jan is survived by her 2 children: Melody McFarland of Mashpee and Ian McFarland and his wife Kelly of New London, CT. Her 3 brothers; James Ellinwood and his wife Lynn of Marstons Mills, MA; Steven MacArthur of North Carolina and David Ellinwood, Jr, also of North Carolina. She is also survived by 2 nieces: Katie Eldredge and her husband Johnny of Yarmouthport, MA and Megan Tanner and her husband Damien of North Carolina. She is also survived by her 5 beautiful grand nieces and nephews (the grand-niblings).

Outside of immediate family, Jan’s generosity and beauty of spirit attracted so very many wonderful friends throughout the years, who were just as close as “family”.

A memorial service will be held for her later this year.
