

A native of Bass River, Joan Marie Baker, aged 82, passed away Sunday, November 15, 2015 in Hyannis, Massachusetts.
Daughter of the late William H. and Anna (Duggan) Baker. She was predeceased by her siblings Eleanor Baker, Doris Frangione, W. Paul Baker, Elizabeth Terrio and Cynthia Baker.
Joan received an undergraduate degree from Our Lady of the Elms and a Masters in Education from Bridgewater State.
Joan was a much loved 2nd Grade teacher for over 40 years in the Yarmouth Public Schools, shaping the minds of hundreds of school children as well as greatly influencing her extended family which included 26 nieces and nephews. Joan (along with her sister Cynthia) brought culture to each of them, from attending performing arts, zoos, and similar attractions and in so doing created many treasured moments.
Joan and her sister traveled summers visiting several locations including France and Russia, but mostly their beloved Ireland. They shared home slide shows of these adventures with their extended families -The Bakers of West Yarmouth, the Terrios of South Yarmouth and the Frangiones of Hyannis. Along with her nieces and nephews, Joan is survived by many loving grand nieces and nephews.
There will be a Celebration of Life at 11:00 am, Saturday, November 21, 2015 at the Doane Beal and Ames Funeral Home, 160 West Main Street, Hyannis, MA. A graveside service will follow at St. Francis Xavier Cemetery, Centerville. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to www.dreamdayoncapecod.org.
