Dear Kathy and family,
I was so sorry to hear of John's passing, I send you my heartfelt sympathy. I have greatly valued John's friendship and his enthusiasm for life. 
You may recall me from Amherst days in the 70's and early 80's when I taught at UMass. Memories of John's high-spirited parties and dinners are still vivid in my mind, especially the wonderful going away dinner when I moved to FL. I treasure the many gifts of his art which he gave me. I hope that your loving memories will continue to console you.

I will truly miss seeing my friend at The Club here in Greensboro. I'm sorry for your loss.

So sorry to hear of John's passing.  I will always cherish this man and all he shared with me and gave me as my professor at UMASS and his friendship.
I loved him a lot.

We are all so saddened to hear of the loss of our most accomplished uncle.  He was truly unique and an inspiration to all his family.
