

Leonard Ismay Duchesney Jr. passed away peacefully on Monday, May 4th 2026 after a brief illness. Leonard was born on March 17th 1941 in Hyannis. Lennie grew up in Hyannis and was a two sport athlete, and captain for both the football and baseball teams at Barnstable High, it was there that Lennie met the love of his life, Ann Lovell.
Lennie had a milk route, for White Brothers, which became Whitings for 8 years where he developed wonderful relationships with all of his customers. Lennie took that experience and started his own painting business, Duchesney Painting, in 1971 with his first hire being his father, Leonard Duchesney Sr. Lennie ran a successful business for over 40 years. Duchesney Painting was a true family business with Lennie’s son, Jim, and brother, David, working along side him. Lennie was a mentor to all the men that worked for him, he was always quick to help anyone who was in need. When Lennie retired, he passed the reins to his brother, David.
If Lennie wasn’t working, you could find him tending to his vegetable garden and immaculate lawn. He was an avid sports fan and loved to cheer for all the Boston sports teams but especially those Red Sox. An avid reader, there wasn’t a crossword puzzle he couldn’t solve.
Lennie and Ann were together for 70 years. Over the course of their 66 years of marriage they created a business, traveled the world, cheered on their favorite sports teams and built a life they loved side by side. Their love for one another will live on forever.
Lennie is survived by his beloved wife, Ann (Lovell), his three children; Son Jim and his wife, Joan , Daughter JoAnn and her husband Matthew Thomas, and Son, John and his wife Mary. His eight grandchildren; Jennifer, Rachel, Ben, Matthew, Steven, Teddy, Harry and Lily. His brother David and wife Susan and sister Carolyn Souza, as well as numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and his 8 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents Leonard and Ruth, and his sister Polly Frazel.
Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, May 7th, between 4-7pm at Doane, Beale and Ames on West Main Street, Hyannis. There will be a graveside service on Friday, May 8th at the Oak Neck Cemetery in Hyannis. The service will be at 11 am, following the service the family would like to invite everyone to celebration of life at Oliver’s on Rte 6A in Dennis.
