Lorri Jenks Lewis McGuire passed away peacefully at home on April 8, 2019. Born in Barrington, RI, on Jan. 21, 1952, she was the daughter of the late Joyce (Kienzle) Lewis and Albert J. Lewis, and sister of the late Timothy Mead Lewis. She was predeceased by the love of her life, Michael J. McGuire, M.D., of Cape Cod.
Lorri attended Cazenovia College and Syracuse University, NY as an undergraduate attaining her BS in Psychology (1974) and Master’s Degree in Social Work (1977). Lorri moved to Cape Cod (the place she most wanted to live and work) in the mid 80s and soon became The Clinical Director of Cape Counseling Center. She instituted an internship program where she supervised many Clinical Social Workers who are still active in the field today. In 1992, she started her own clinical practice establishing The Barnstable Harbor Counseling Center. Her clinical expertise and holistic wellness approach to psychotherapy served many clients over the years with loving care.
Lorri loved the ocean and was an avid sailor. Physical fitness and emotional wellbeing were ever at the forefront of her life agenda. She took up golf with her husband, Mike, and made the rounds wherever and whenever they could find tee times. She adored her Golden Retriever, Abby, her constant companion. Lorri was passionate about music both as a participant and a listener. Her zest for life was evident in everything she did.
She was blessed by the friendship of many as well as a true friend, confidante and all around positive human being to everyone she knew. Her loving spirit will live on in all who had the great fortune to know her.
While she endured a long illness, she embraced it with remarkable courage and dignity, with the support of many dedicated caretakers and friends. Extended gratitude to all for their support.
A memorial service and celebration of her life will be held in her honor at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church, 3055 Main St., Barnstable, MA 02630 on May 18, 2019 at noon.
